Thor's hammer is missing again. The thunder god has a disturbing habit of misplacing his weapon-the mightiest force in the Nine Worlds. But this time the hammer isn't just lost, it has fallen into enemy hands. If Magnus Chase and his friends can't retrieve the hammer quickly, the mortal worlds will be defenseless against an onslaught of giants. Ragnarok will begin. The Nine Worlds will burn. Unfortunately, the only person who can broker a deal for the hammer's return is the gods' worst enemy, Loki--and the price he wants is very high.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"Riordan has once again created a reluctant hero who finds himself out of his depth. He stays fairly close to the spirit of the original myths, twisting them for extra comedic effect-Avengers fans may hardly recognize this blustery, red-headed, TV-binge-watching Thor. There's appeal for new readers, but Percy Jackson fans will also undoubtedly snap this up, and there's even some overlap: Magnus' cousin is Annabeth Chase. Buy extra copies, and prepare for the siege.
HIGH-DEMAND BACKSTORY: Norse myths are in right now, and Riordan has the magic touch, a combination that makes the extensive marketing campaign seem almost redundant."—Booklist

“Magnus Chase and the Hammer of Thor” Pros Exciting plot Relatable characters Really funny Heartfelt Not too long Educational I just finished the second book in the Magnus Chase series “Magnus Chase and the Hammer of Thor.” This is a book written by the best selling author, Rick Riordan. Four hundred and eighty pages in length this is a fantasy novel. Magnus Chase is just a regular teenage guy, except for one small thing. He’s a demigod. His father is Frey the Norse God of nature. Magnus Chase is a demigod whose life is just settling down. Then out of the blue he gets a message from his friend Sam saying they need to meet and he knows something is up. The Hammer of Thor is missing and if it’s not in Thor’s power again immediately the nine worlds will be in grave danger. With the help of old friends and new ones, Magnus and Sam embark on a dangerous and emotion sparking quest to find Thor’s Hammer and save the nine worlds. I loved this book. The witty humor and nonstop puns make this a book one you will find yourself laughing out loud at. The norse mythology was also something that I found really interesting to learn about through modern storytelling. There was never a dull moment in this story, at the end of each chapter you immediately jump into the next one. Another one of things that make this such an awesome novel is the relatability of the characters. These characters have to deal with discrimination, learning disorders, family issues and so many other things. Everyone no matter their race, gender, religion, or age can find themselves in one of these characters. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Norse mythology. If you liked the “Percy Jackson Series” or the “Heros of Olympus” you’ll love this book. Overall I thought this book was one of the best written by Rick Riordan the only problem is that I have to wait till October 2017 for the next one!

Another fantastic Rick Riordan book! I was really, really happy to discover that one of the characters is transgender. It's great to see LGBTQ+ representation, especially in a kids book. I myself am not a kid--I'm 22 and have been a huge fan of Rick's since I first started reading Percy Jackson in middle school. I don't think I'll ever grow out of these books. They're full of so much wit, adventure and charm that just about anybody can enjoy them. Hammer of Thor certainly didn't disappoint. I can't recommend this series enough for people of all ages who love mythology (and have a good sense of humor).

This book was so good. Obviously the book was great from a story accept and taught a bunch about Norse mythology, but the real standout learning was the social themes. This book covers the issues of family and not giving up on them, accepting others even if they have been hiding the fact that they are a viking soldier who reaps the souls of the dead in Amir's case or... Is gender fluid I can't say that Rick Riordian made a perfect or even accurate representation because I am not gender fluid, but Rick Riordian covers the topic well and there is one specific conversation about everyone being their own person. This book is amazing on its own and because Magnus already knows about the Greeks there are the most PJO references out of all the spinoff series. 5 stars go buy and enjoy
