The Handy Dinosaur Answer Book
By Thomas E. Svarney and Patricia Barnes-Svarney
Review by Heather Mullard
Ever wonder of what the Earth was like back in the age of the dinosaurs and even before? The Handy Dinosaur Answer Book isn’t just about dinosaurs; it explains where the Solar System came from, the early Earth’s early formations, the beginnings of life fossil formations and the evolution of dinosaurs.
Thomas and Patricia really make you understand what the earth was like and how dinosaurs lived and how their fossils formed over billions of years. Some questions asked where; what and when were the ice ages? What are trace fossils? What were the smallest dinosaurs known in the Jurassic period? How many bones make up the average dinosaur skeleton? What did a dinosaur nest look like? What is a Dinosaur Ridge? In what northern locale were dinosaur footprints found in 1960? All these questions are answered and more in The Handy Dinosaur Answer Book.
This book kind of has mystery to it, along with a nature and learning about the ecosystem. Thomas and Patricia really know how to keep you reading. They don’t just say the topic, they explain it and really make you feel like you lived back in time to see and understand these topics.
What I liked in this book was most of my questions I had about dinosaurs were answered. I also learned new things about the beginning of earth, plate tectonics, and the first fossils founds.
I really liked this book because there are so many questions that get answered like; what plants did herbivorous dinosaurs probably eat that are still present today? Answer: Decedents of conifers, flowering plants, horsetails, ferns, and cycads continue to grow today, and probably their ancestors served as metals for ancient herbivorous dinosaurs.
Thomas E. Svarney is a scientist, naturalist, and artist. With Patricia Barnes-Svarney, he is the author of various science books, including Skies of Fury, The Handy Geology Answer book, The Handy Ocean Answer Book, and The Handy Dinosaur Answer Book. I recommend you read his books if you want to learn more about anything. They will help you master the knowledge.
