Overview

The best-selling author of The Healing Power of Mind presents Tibetan Buddhist instructions for transforming negative thoughts and feelings into loving-kindness toward all beings. Tulku Thondup instructs that by bringing to mind images and thoughts of Avalokitesvara, the Buddhist deity of loving-kindness, we can connect from the heart with the Buddha's example. According to Tulku Thondup, when we awaken loving-kindness through this practice, our outlook on life fundamentally changes and we ourselves can become a source of joy and inspiration to others.

On the first CD, Tulku Thondup describes the benefits of loving-kindness and offers guidance on how to practice the meditations. On the second and third CDs, he leads guided meditations for invoking and sharing the blessings of the Buddha of Loving-Kindness. In the book, Tulku Thondup offers teachings on the Buddhist view of loving-kindness and philosophy behind Tibetan Buddhist visualization and prayer practices. The package also includes a full-color illustration of Avalokitesvara, the Buddha of Loving-Kindness, for help with the visualization.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Accompanied by a 118-page illustrated companion book, this audio is intended to guide listeners/readers through the meditation process. Author Thondup (The Healing Power of Mind), who narrates, begins by discussing the purpose of meditation for attaining the Buddhist view of loving-kindness. The presentation initially takes the form of a lecture; only by the second disc does Thondup address the actual steps necessary to meditation. Each of the tracks, some as long as 18 minutes, focuses on a different aspect of loving-kindness meditation. Recommended only for those listeners who are new to meditation and might want to be talked through it.—Deb West, Gannon Univ. Lib., Erie, PA

Tulku Thondup's CD on loving kindness is a wonder.

I just finished listening to the CD. Tulku Thondup's teaching is very lucid and gentle, but full of power, and most of all - compassion. This is a great opportunity to meditate with a true master and receive genuine spiritual blessing.

    The Healing Power of Loving-Kindness

The Healing Power of Loving-Kindness offered by Tulku Thondup is a wonderfully generous gift for Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike. I found the book and the set of three CDs instructive and inspiring. The availability of visual and auditory guidance helped me orient my body and mind to receive the instruction in preparation for a deep, extended meditation experience. The first CD gives pertinent step-by-step instruction. Tulku Thondup's gentle voice of wisdom explains the meaning of the Buddha of Loving-Kindness and the necessary meditative tools. The second CD provides the opportunity to align posture, breath, and conceptual mind before visualizing and evoking the tangible blessings of Loving-Kindness. The third CD offers a series of visualizations and mantra that stimulate one's own devotion and activates a genuine desire for personal and global peace and happiness. In a world full of turmoil and stress, I feel so fortunate for this sublime help offered by an authentic and esteemed Buddhist teacher.
