Colleen Coble does a great job of showing true human grace in a fascinating love story.

Loved the way the character changed and grew through the book. One of Coble's older stories but still compelling.

The Heart Answers is the third book in this series, and this is Jessica DuBois’s story, and if you have read the other books, your opinion of her may not be very nice. She was always the thorn in everybody’s side, and if there was trouble, it was usually her fault. After her father died Jessica and her mother decide to move to Fort Bridger, Wyoming, and her mother has decided to marry her deceased husband’s brother. What a change for Jessica, but God does seem to have his reasons for what happens and we find Jessica making a real friend for a change. The Reverend Clay Cole is related to this new friend, a cousin really, who is recently widowed, and has a precocious three-year-old daughter. Surprisingly, Jessica seems to afford an attachment for this child, really out of character for her. Rev Clay is attracted to Jessica, but as we have seen in the past she is a bit flighty and conniving, can she every change. This was a very quick read, and one that I didn’t want to end, I kept hoping things would work out for all, but you will have to read the book and judge for yourself! I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Thomas Nelson, and was not required to give a positive review.

Whenever I pick up a book by Colleen Coble I know I am going to be entertained by it. The Heart Answers was one of those books. From the first page I was hooked, and enjoyed every moment. The Heart Answers is set in Wyoming in 1867. Coble takes you to a place not often visited, a military fort. I found it so interesting learning more about what life would have been like for those that lived there. The characters were so fun to get to know, and I wasn’t ready to say goodbye. Jessica DuBois has lived the last several years of her life a bit spoiled. When her mother must remarry, she has no choice but to move to Fort Bridger. The last place Jessica wants to go is another fort, but being with her mother is also important. Used to being the only child, and not having to help around the house Jessica doesn’t know what to do when her life is turned upside down. Being blessed with beauty has always helped Jessica get what she wants, but will it work at their new home? When life isn’t easy is when you get to see your true character, will Jessica like who she is? When Clay meets Jessica he sees what she is on the outside. But can he minister to her when all he sees is a pretty spoiled girl? Traveling from fort to fort is his calling, and the last thing he wants is for someone to mess up his plans. Not only does he love his job, but he loves his family. When tragedy strikes Clay knows he has some decisions to make. Will those decisions include Jessica? Will he listen to God’s will for his life, or forge ahead in what he thinks God wants? I really enjoyed reading this book. It was not without tragedy, but most of our lives aren’t perfect. Coble kept my interest the entire time. I had fun trying to figure out what Jessica was going to do next. I enjoyed learning more about life in a fort, and was surprised by many of the things I learned. It was interesting following the characters growth in Christ, from those who didn’t know Him, to those who leaned on him daily. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Historical Fiction. I received a copy of this book from Thomas Nelson Publishers in exchange for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.

The Heart Answers by Colleen Coble is the third book in the Wyoming series. It is March 1867 at Fort Phil Kearny, Wyoming Territory. Jessica DuBois is a flighty, shallow, and spoiled young woman (her parents have really spoiled her). However, Jessica is upset over the loss of her father who passed away two months ago. Jessica and her mother know they have to vacate the officer housing, but her father left them virtually penniless. Jessica’s mother, Letty tells her about an offer from Samuel DuBois (her uncle—brother to Jessica’s father). Samuel is a widower with three children. He needs a wife and has asked Letty to marry him. Letty has accepted his offer and they are moving to Fort Bridger. Jessica was hoping to return to Boston, but there is no money available for the journey. On the journey to Fort Bridger, they are attacked by Indians. Reverend Clay Cole rescues them and escorts them on to Fort Bridger. They stop at a fort along the way and Clay discovers that his cousin, Martin (more like a brother to him) passed away in a skirmish. Martin left behind his wife, Ellen and a young daughter, Franny. Ellen asks for Clay’s assistance in obtaining a position as a laundress (a lowly position at forts) at Fort Bridger so she can provide for Franny. Jessica befriends young Franny and slowly gets to know Ellen. Clay is a mystery to Jessica. He actually rebuffed her (and her flirting). Jessica is more determined to win him and then dump him. But things happen on the frontier that change people. Come along for Jessica’s journey in The Heart Answers. The Hearts Answers was a good book. It is a Christian romance novel and a nice change of a pace for me (gives me a break from mysteries and thrillers). It is well-written, good pace (making it easy to read), and interesting characters. I found the novel to contain a good moral or life lesson (about trusting in God and His plan for our lives, faith, love, and forgiveness). This is the third book in the series, but it can be read as a standalone novel. Each book in the series tells the story of a different woman and their life in Wyoming Territory. I was interested to see what would happen to Jessica and the author did not disappoint me. I give The Heart Answers 4 out of 5 stars. The story has its expected outcome, but that did not diminish my enjoyment of the story (who doesn’t love a good ending). I received a complimentary copy of The Heart Answers from NetGalley in exchange for an honest evaluation of the novel.
