Behind the lines lie unspeakable danger and the test of a lifetime for former intelligence officer Bill Penn. When a secret mass grave in the Balkans reveals the body of Dorrie Mowat, he is drawn into a fight he had left long ago. Now a private investigator, Penn's need to redeem his own failed life, and search for someone else's, lures him into a supreme gesture of reckless courage.

When the body of a young girl and several men are exhumed in a mass grave in a war-torn sector of the former Yugoslavia a series of events are set in motion that have a snowball effect. Former clerk in a government department and now a Private Investigator, Bill Penn, is hired by the girl's mother to find out the circumstances of her death. As the investigations progress and take Penn to Zagreb and then behind enemy lines the reader becomes aware that there is something more going on than a mere commercial transaction between two private citizens. This book starts well and then gets better by the page. Seymour introduces his characters gradually giving us an insight into their minds, roles and significance before their climactic involvement with Penn. Sometimes I found this style difficult to follow but it certainly doesn't give you time to get bored and they all tie in together eventually. Was this review helpful?
