    Great Homeschooling Resource!

Robin Sampson put an amazing amount of time into the planning and writing of this book! So far, I've been very impressed. The premise of the book is that we should be using the Bible as our main 'curriculum resource'~ and everything else should just fall in behind. The first section of the book is entitled 'Lessons from Exodus'. I've only read the first 10 chapters so far~ but I'm amazed at how Robin ties homeschooling in with the story of the Children of Israel. I never would have thought of it~ but the comparisons are so true! I would highly recommend the book just for the small part that I've read so far. It's been such an encouragement to me to think that any struggles that I've faced in my homeschooling journey are shared by many and that, by putting my complete trust in God and surrendering our homeschooling to Him, He will accomplish great things. Section 2 in entitled 'Rethinking Education'. In this section, Robin defines the terms 'wisdom' and 'education' and explores the roots of education from ancient times until now. She discusses the differences between Christian and secular worldviews, and Hebrew and Greek worldviews. The main appeal of this section is to return to the biblical model of educating our children. I was very impressed with Robin's 'brief' history of education 'chapter 6'. I put the word 'brief' in quotes because I didn't find it to be brief at all but, rather, quite thorough. I know I said this in my last review, but I am amazed at the amount of study and time that went into the writing of this book and, specifically, this chapter. In the chapters that follow, she goes into even more detail. In chapter 9, Robin discusses the educations of Jesus and Paul. She goes on to discuss how their education fed into their teaching style. I really enjoyed this chapter~ it gave me alot of insight into ways that I should be using to teach my children. I'm anxious for Section 3~ it contains the Heart of Wisdom Methods.

    Be a biblically based homeschooler!

It is really excellent. I highly recommend it to those of you who are looking for a lifestyle of learning which leans heavily on the Word of God for the 'main course' of your curriculum. Robin has created several unit studies on different topics such as: Wisdom, From Adam to Abraham, Biblical Holidays, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, Creation, Light, Energy, etc. She also encourages you to create your own unit studies. There is a free download of her book available at her website She goes into how the Greek and Roman classical style of teaching is still used in public schools today 'as well as many homeschools'. She describes the Biblical/Hebraic model of education which is more in tune with what Christians want for their children. It's fascinating reading. It's a huge book with many resource lists at the back geared for different age groups. My oldest is in grade one. Her approach goes from K-12, with modifications.

Outstanding! Sure to Become a Best Seller

This book is a magnificent Bible centered approach that is much needed in today's academic minded homeschool community. It will provide you with the methods, program, and resources for a course of study where students focus half the school day studying God's Word and the other half studying God's world (academics). Easy, entertaining and actually fun! Students study history chronologically and science in the order of the days of creation. This book will instruct you, step by step, how to give your child a Bible focused, comprehensive education from preschool through high school one that will train him or her to read, to study, to understand, to LOVE TO LEARN and most importantly to desire and seek true wisdom. This approach can be used for all grade levels. Sampson gives an excellent Bible focused alternative to classical education by encouraging students to study snippets of the classics from a Biblical worldview without immersing them in the pagan writings. The 'Rethinking Education' section explains the historical and cultural background of my recipes. Here you will learn how it is necessary to look at education through history. This section includes the origins and development of our traditional educational methods, from ancient times until today, with an appeal to return to biblical methods. The Heart of Wisdom Methods include the most popular homeschool teaching philosophies: Bible First, Delight Directed, Discipleship, approaches outlined by Charlotte Mason and Ruth Beechick, Hebrew methods, learning styles, and more! You will learn about the Heart of Wisdom four-year plan and philosophies for teaching each subject, as well as how to create your own unit studies (or use the lessons from Heart of Wisdom) The Resources section includes book lists included in the Heart of Wisdom four-year plan. This section explains books that should be in every homeschool library and provides hundreds of books by grade level to teach the unit studies. Sample pages are available from the author's site.
