The Heights [Film Soundtrack]

All Music Guide - James Christopher Monger
Director Chris Terrio's real-time drama about five denizens of the Big Apple who have just 24 hours to choose their destiny relies on a soundtrack that's both deeply introspective and detached at the same time. All Music Guide - James Christopher Monger
Director Chris Terrio's real-time drama about five denizens of the Big Apple who have just 24 hours to choose their destiny relies on a soundtrack that's both deeply introspective and detached at the same time. Martin Erskine and Ben Butler's moody score is drenched in Daniel Lanois-style guitar atmospherics, Thomas Newman-esque piano interludes, and quiet moments of obvious character tension that grind to a halt and then resume like determined footsteps up a long cold hill. Their melodies are mischievous and innovative, with simple instrumentation and clear execution. Mark Ribot y los Cubanos Postizos provide some Latino perspective with two excellent contributions, the late Jeff Buckley is represented by the spooky and meditative "New Year's Prayer," and Hooverphonic and Tosca lay down some spacious ambient pop that conjures up images of the "city that never sleeps" in all of its nocturnal glory. Heights is chilly for sure, but it's focused enough on the idea of the imminent arrival of the morning sun to warrant more than a few listens.

    Heights of Chill-Out Calm

The “Heights” soundtrack contains a variety of chill-out musicians. There are 19 songs in this set that contain both dramatic and peaceful themes. “Dreaming” by Susan Malick and “Angels” by Wax Poetic featuring Norah Jones are two satisfying tunes among a sea of relaxing chill-out. The “Heights” soundtrack is great for those who like their movie soundtracks with hints of lounge music.
