Entering the world of herbs is like discovering a delightful garden filled with tantalizing tastes and aromas. In fact, for thousands of years people have known that herbs were special plants and have recognized their potential in different aspects of life. Today, we use herbs in cooking, in healing, as natural remedies for minor complaints, and to keep our bodies and minds healthy and active.

The Herb Bible will fascinate and inspire you to grow your own herbs. It shows you how easy it is to start growing a herb garden according to your local conditions and climate, how to design the space to the best advantage and what herbs to include. It covers every stage involved in herbgrowing from preparing and planting to harvesting and drying, giving useful tips and advice throughout. Included also are recipes and remedies and a special section on self-help using herbs. Finally, there is a comprehensive directory covering 70 herbs indicating their botanical information and uses so you can see at a glance how each individual herb can be best used to help you safely and effectively.

Jennie Harding has spent the last 13 years practicing and teaching aromatherapy. An avid grower of herbs and plants, she holds an advanced certificate in ecology. Her life long interest in plants was instilled in her by her Swiss mother and grandfather. She has written several books on complementary therapy and well-being.

    Informative but...

The Herb Bible was informative on many subjects concerning herbs and their use but I found it to be rather vague with the details that I was looking for. The author assumes the reader has a relatively concrete knowledge of herbalism which will leave those looking into herbalism for the first time with a lot to be desired. Also, I found its directory of herbs rather lacking in medicinal variety. Most herbs listed dealt with stomach ache, PMS, or fatigue and I was looking for something with a wide variety of plants that dealt with a wide variety of ailments-I also wanted something that explained, in depth, the processes involved in making compresses, poultices, tonics, tinctures, etc. The Herb Bible only touched upon the subjects.

Though it was not what I was looking for, the Herb Bible covers a variety of ways to use herbs in healing, aroma therapy and cooking and provides ample information on preparing soil, laying out an herb garden, growing, and harvesting. I would recommend the Herb Bible for those interested in herbalism but aren't entirely sure what herbalism is about or what it can do for you and your family.

Great information, easy to read, well organized!

I bought this book and used it immediately while planting my garden. The section on compatibility with other plants was especially useful. (Did you know Tomatoes and Basil like to be planted near one another? Both will flourish if planted together). Wonderful resource!
