I could not finish this book.
I made as far as a scene in which the main human antagonist used a wooden food tray, held with one hand at one edge, to catch two arrows fired, indoors, from composite bows. Then someone swings a musket butt, with two hands, into the antagonist's head, stumbles, making him stumble, but not preventing him from firing his pistol.
The plot is interesting, but there is no attention to detail. The soldiers in this book are caricatures, pulling the impossible, taking risks for no good reasons, not quite understanding how their own equipment works, but able to perform complex actions as one individual. I expected better from a book with David Drake's name on it.
