( 2 )

Overview

This book offers practical suggestions and advice for how to teach and learn those subtle messages that most people pick up almost automatically but that have to be directly taught to individuals with social-cognitive challenges, including those on the autism spectrum. Given the serious consequences that can befall a person who violates a social rule, the strategies and detailed lists of curriculum items make this a much-needed resource.

    Not what I expected

As an adult who was just recently told I might have Asperger's I bought this book after seeing it listed as a recommended therapy supplement in another book on Congnitive Behaviroal Therapy for Adult Asperger's. The social skills listed in this boos are very basic things that for the most part were learned very early in life. I thought it would have more information that would help with interpersonal relationships an area I am lacking in skills but that area wasn't even touched on in the book. If you are what's called a high functioning Asperger's I don't know that this book will be of much use. I would recommend you try and get a copy of the book to review before making the decision to purchase it. For a young child perhaps even an early teen the book might have some value but the odds are if you have made it to an adult life not toomuch in this book will be new or of use.

Social transactions for special needs kids

This book is most worth while. Some of the areas that it addresses are important but less obvious to many in society, and the author did a good job with dialoguing those subject.
