The Hidden Life: Living Inside-Out to Release God's Blessing

Overview

Pastors, churches and individual Christians are constantly searching for the right strategies for success in their ministries. Yet our production-driven culture has led us to ask the wrong question.

The Bible repeatedly points us back to a deeper issue: who must I be? Contradiction, hypocrisy and neglect of our hidden lives too often choke off any fruit that God would bring forth. The flesh compels us to work to bear fruit. But just the opposite is true: it is our works that ...

But just the opposite is true: it is our works that make us barren. We so easily compartmentalize and isolate inconsistencies in our hidden lives and think that we can still move forward in God's service. As a result, much of what we "do" for God is unnecessary, unproductive and unfruitful. For God brings forth His fruit not in those who do?, but in those who are?.

Editorial Reviews

Ed Cleaver
I believe the Holy Spirit truly led me to your book... While I am only halfway through reading it, I want to thank you for the incredible blessing it has already been to me. How I needed such challenging and encouraging words right now!
Timothy Buck
This book fits the category of "life changing" for me. I have read and re-read it, and find myself repeatedly going back to specific passages that speak to me. Possibly this book spoke to me deeply because of where I am in my own growth trajectory at this point in time, but even if that is true I believe this book has a message that needs a wider audience within Christendom, and I hope I can encourage others to read it.
Quiet Heart Press - David. A Duke
...a work of compassion and great value. ...some of the contents of the book will not be comfortable for readers, but my thoughts turned to "faithful are the wounds of a friend."

Meet the Author

A self-styled "white-male-boomer, postpropositional-fundamentalist mystic;" Bryan was born in 1953 and grew up as a blissfully content agnostic on the beaches of southern California. He has since made his home in northern Idaho, Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, Haida Gwaii, Vancouver Island, and Saskatchewan. His reflections on the evangelical experience are forged out of his sojourns as a Presbyterian youth minister, gyppo logger, art salesman, Bible church pastor, timber cruiser, mountain climbing instructor, commissioned police chaplain, and forest manager. He is a registered professional forester in British Columbia and Saskatchewan.

Bryan is active in First Nations ministries in Haida Gwaii and Prince Albert. A lifetime bagpiper, he plays with the Prince Albert Highlanders Pipes and Drums. Bryan holds the Master of Christian Studies and Master of Divinity degrees from Regent College.
