Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Stewart Mason
The debut album by the High Kings was issued by the same folks who had a hand in Celtic Woman and Riverdance, and consists of easy listening and buffed-and-polished Irish folk music of appeal to an audience that is comparatively massive for the world music fringe: this album made the lower levels of the Billboard Top 200 album chart. The High Kings is glossy and polite -- targeted perhaps toward listeners who enjoyed the pennywhistle on Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" -- even on tunes that strive to be upbeat and frolicsome.

This Irish group brings a great mixture of songs to satisfy any lover of the Holy Ground. There are songs such as The Wild Rover that my friends and I sang in Irish neighborhood bars as young people. There is a song called the Auld Triangle that reminds me of stories my grandfather told me about the troubles It is just great stuff...UP...!

Even if you've never experienced this genre of music, you will surely appreciate the talents and vocal excellence of The High Kings. My tastes normally run from R&B to singer-songwriter to alternative rock. What a world of music these artists have opened up for this American and I hope for you, as well. Long live The High Kings of Ireland!

These guys are really outstanding. Their voices are so beautifully balanced that at times you'll swear you're listening to more than four voices. "The Auld Triangle" is an example of a song who's lyrics I don't relate to or much care for, but the A Cappella is so amazing that I can't help but listen to it over and over. If you're looking for a modern yet refined take on traditional Irish folk music that's performed brilliantly, you won't do any better than this.
