Too much of a good thing...is just enough

I just discovered Jennifer Stevenson's wacky, wonderful series, and plan to read more in it soon. As others have said, her stories are original, amusing, and pretty darn hot! There are nods to romantic fantasy, but the tone here is sly and subversive, while staying light and fast-paced. Her heroine Jewell is definitely her own boss, though susceptible to the charms of men, and she manages to call the shots with two hunky guys, one of whom literally sweeps her off her feet... five stars

I've read the whole Brass Bed series, and I enjoyed them all as much as the first one. I've also read several other books by Jennifer and I feel that she is getting better and better. This is a good author to follow. five stars

I really enjoyed this book. It's quirky, it's well-written, the premise is imaginative and the development works. Yeah, it's a light read; at times hilariously funny, often witty as well, which is a different and even better thing. I love that in a book. It's got depth, and so do the others in the series. This author has imagination to spare! I can hardly wait to see what the author does next. five stars

It's witty, it's zany, I read it on the train and spent a happily distracted time. It takes place in a confused half-magical future Chicago where odd incidents (pigeons have started smoking cigarettes, some homeless kid has a Genii in a bottle that he's renting out, causing havoc) are never explained -- much to the betterment of the book, I think... I found the characters delightful, the dialogue zinging, and the fast-paced leap from outrageous situation to outrageous situation refreshing. *****

I loved the idea of magic overrunning Chicago, to the consternation of the city leaders. The dialog between the personalities was witty and thoroughly entertaining, and I plan to read more of this series! four stars

I received this book free in exchange for an honest review Being trapped anywhere is uncomfortable, at best. Being trapped for over 200 years would be sheer torture! Randolph Llew Carstairs Althelbury Darner, third Earl Pontarsais, better known as Randy, has been trapped in a bed for 200 years. His punishment is to provide pleasure for whoever sleeps in his bed. How can he do that? He invades their dreams and plays the part of the partner they wish they had. Jewel Heiss is an investigator for the Chicago Department of Consumer Services. She has followed her best friend, Nina to the location of the bed in an effort to determine why Nina is spending $350 up to 4 times per week. Of course it was not Jewel’s idea to follow Nina, she was ordered to do so by her boss, who also happens to be Nina’s husband, Ed. Will Jewel be able to account for the money Nina is spending? Will she be able to recover the money? What will become of Randy if his secret location is revealed? Will he ever be free of his prison? What will become of him if he is freed? Who is the man Nina is seeing so regularly? Cute short story with a few twists and some unexpected situations. An adult fantasy with adult situations, and action.
