One Family's Link To Gunstock (The Area)

Carol Anderson's extensive research on Gunstock and skiing the Belknap Mountains gives you a complete history of the early years of skiing there; from ski jumping events that attracted thousands of spectators in what were the 'X Games' of the 1930's, 40's and 50's to the development of modern Alpine skiing. Her book will take the reader from the primitive rope tows which first took skiers to the top of the slopes along with the first chairlift east of the Missippi in the United States.

My grandfather, Fritzie Baer, began a life long association with Gunstock in 1938, when he was president of the NE Motorcycle Dealers Association. They brought national motorcycle racing to Gunstock, which lasted there until 1963. He was also General Manager of Gunstock from 1950 - 1959, which were critical years in the developement of Gunstock as a major ski area in New Hampshire. Carol did a great job in a chapter that chronicles his years there.

From the beginnings as a WPA project to create jobs for Americans, a theme that is as relevant today as it was in the 1930's, to world class skiers Torger Tokle and Olympian medalist, Penny Pitou, Carol tells a story that is alive and keeps you turning the pages for the rest of the story.
