The first edition was completed in 1994 and published in 1996. This edition has updated the contents of the book with the past 20 some years' disclosed materials, personal interviews and researches. Besides the introduction of the causes of 1989 Tiananmen Square Protests / Tiananmen Square Incident, the book focuses on the publically concerned cases, suspicions and unsettled issues as well. The author researched into pre-incident and post-incident interactions between the government and anti-government forces as well as wrestles between the higher authorities and civil societies, probing deep into the secrets behind the backdrop, and offered new interpretations in some aspects. The work is composed of three books and 1,300,000 words in Chinese characters.

About the Author

Ms. Xiaoya Chen was born in Oct 1955 in Changsha, Hunan province. She graduated with BA degree in history from Hunan Normal University, History Dept. She is now retired, living in Beijing, China, with experiences as a worker, carder, editor and journalist in her career life. She was fired from her post as an associate researcher in China Social Science Research Institute, Political Institution Branch because of her publication of the first edition of the book in the same title (previously mentioned). Besides this book, she also has several other publications related to the history of the 1989 Tiananmen Square Protests .
