Overview

Critics praised Susan Trott's national bestseller, The Holy Man, as "endlessly entertaining and gently profound" (Kirkus)."With wit and modern insight,it compels readers to look inward, to turn to themselves for enlightenment" (Booklist) Now Trott continues her entertaining and spiritually illuminating tales of the holy man with The Holy Man's Journey in which Joe undertakes a pilgrimage of his own to visit his old teacher who is ill. He must leave his beloved hemitage and fellow monks, perhaps never to return. Accompanying him is his student successor, Anna, who learns from dramatic situations during their journey lessons in compassion and right action, not only for her but for Trott's spellbound readers. Intimate and revealing, this is a tale of friendship and love that shows the human side of the holy man while never ceasing to instruct and enlighten the reader.

Editorial Reviews

Donna Seaman
"This is a deft, stirring, and universally appealing story inlaid with genuine wisdom and a palatable love of life. Trott uses the concentrated form of the parable to entrancing effect. Joe is gentle, wise, and blessed with a rich sense of humor."
Frederic Brussat
"Anna realizes that all their experiences on the journy are occasions for her to learn about the spiritual practices of patience, generosity, kindness, and fearlessness. The Holy Man's Journey is so simple and so profound that we can hardly wait for the next installment about Anna's vocation as a holy woman."
Uitgeveriij Bzzioh
Trott is as wily as her sweet-spirited holy man, using her no-pressure storytelling style to lull readers into unexpected moments of wit and illumination."

    The first and the best...

This is in my all time top 10 favorite books. Profound, but simple, Trott's characters speak to many. The first of a trilogy, you'll want to read all three and you won't be disappointed
