Gynecologist Gottfried (The Hormone Cure) specializes in integrative, functional medicine that helps women balance their hormones in an effort to combat food addiction, reduce stress and inflammation, and lose weight. The book’s nutritional prescriptions consist of seven three-day food-elimination regimens. Each area targeted for elimination corresponds to a different hormone: meat and alcohol (estrogen), sugar (insulin), fruit (leptin), caffeine (cortisol), grain (thyroid), dairy (growth hormone), and synthetic toxins (testosterone). The chapters include self-assessment checklists, information on various hormones’ effects on metabolism, food and supplements lists, and a sample one-day menu. A closing section, “Re-entry and Beyond,” offers, among other advice, the author’s “personal food code” and a set of rules for maintaining a trigger-free, hormone-healthy way of life. Gottfried’s chatty, encouraging, woman-to-woman tone makes a very challenging diet plan seem quite doable, as does an appealing layout with boxes, illustrations, and tables. Sara Gottfried, M.D., is the New York Times bestselling author of The Hormone Cure. After graduating from the physician-scientist training program at Harvard Medical School and MIT, Dr. Gottfried completed her residency at the University of California at San Francisco. She is a board-certified gynecologist who teaches natural hormone balancing in her novel online programs so that women can lose weight, detoxify, and feel great. Dr. Gottfried lives in Berkeley, California, with her husband and two daughters.

If I knew you would be cutting out all meat and dairy, I would not have ordered the book. For me it was a waste of money.

I followed this plan to the letter -- and after 3 weeks of very tough deprivation, I only lost 3 pounds. I think it's all a bunch of bull. Don't waste your money or put yourself through the trouble. The plan requires you to purchase all sorts of items that really add up - like those to measure your blood sugar and several supplements that are supposed to help with the cravings. Those items all together cost a small fortune. Not a big deal for a doctor, but for the other 99% or us, it really hurt. Especially because the plan did not work! Thanks for gouging my wallet and the huge letdown, 'Dr. Sara.'

There are only two books that I am looking forward to trying, this book out of curiosity and The Hungry Chick Dieting Solution because I have heard so much about it. I won’t lie three of my cousins, they are sisters, started it at the same time and while I don't know how much weight they lost, they look really good. I just bought both books. Hope this helps someone else.
