Joseph Thomas Sheridan Le Fanu (1814-1873) was an important ghost story and Gothic writer of the nineteenth century. He had a major influence on the development of that genre in the Victorian era and his works have influenced a number of later writers, including H.P. Lovecraft, M.R. James, Bram Stoker, and James Joyce, among others.
