Author Michael Paul Gallagher in this book. Too often, the Christian message is described in language that is tired and moralistic to many, especially the young. The result is that religion becomes a "turn off." In imitation of Jesus, to reach all, and youth in particular, faith needs to be conveyed through the language of storytelling and dialogue.Highlights inventive and surprising. uses stories, allusions to novels and films, and imaginary dialogues between, for example, Jane Austen and D. H. Lawrence, Shakespeare and Oscar Romero, to show how faith can be found in ordinary situations. appeals to a wide, especially young, audience. a novel addition to Jesus scholarship.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
This is another of the many current titles that seem to answer a need for spiritual heroes great men, great women, great saints. This volume collects articles on 52 Christians who have exerted a strong influence on the last 1000 years, by as many authors. There are no real surprises among those chosen, with the possible exceptions of Bridget of Sweden and the Swami Abhishiktananda, Henri Le Saux, and the articles are on the whole capably written. This pleasing book has, ultimately, a British genesis: both of its principal editors are English in origin, though O'Grady now lives in California. Many potential readers will be attracted by Rita Corbin's strong and striking woodcuts. For most collections. Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.
