Overview

Byron Caige has been a prisoner for the last fifty years of his supernaturally long life. Just when he gives up hope of ever knowing the taste of freedom again, he is unwittingly rescued by the very same woman who only wants to see him dead. She's also Byron's dormant.

As supernatural war breaks out amongst the otherworldly of Earth and threatens the existence of entire races, Kat is faced with a terrible decision. I fell in love with the Big Bad Wolf series instantly when I read the first book and I read the next 2 within as many days... I couldn't get enough!! The characters, the plot, the twists all took you on an emotional roller coaster ride that just got better and better with each book!! So when the release date was announced for this book I was sitting on the edge of my seat all day waiting patiently for B&N to make it available for download...and I waited... and waited...and waited some more (not so patiently) until it was FINALLY available 5 days later. Not sure what the glitch was with B&N :( Anyway, I downloaded it as soon as it was released and read it in one (red-eyed) sitting. I couldn't put it down and as it was with the others, this book did not disappoint!! Each book centers around a different set of main characters but intertwines the previous books characters into the storyline so you could see how their stories progressed...they also gave you a little backstory for the next books characters without being repetitive so it is better to read these books in sequence. HKW has definitely done it again and I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next!! Hopefully it some more ridiculously sexy Alpha wolves ;)

There is a scene in Heather Killough-Walden's newest novel, "The Hunt," where a crucial spell is being attempted as witches and werewolves observe in tense, respectful silence. The scene takes place in a redwood forest, and the author writes, "The night grew very still. There was no sound from the animals in the forest. It was as if every one of them sensed the change coming and was listening. Watching." That's what reading "The Hunt" was like for me. I felt like one of those forest denizen, present on the outskirts and observing respectfully and breathlessly as the story unfolded. At times I had to step away and catch my breath; other times I blew off everyone and everything to continue reading and remain on the outskirts of that redwood forest, or the conference room in wolf council headquarters, or in the cave with Byron and Kat. Oh my - that cave . . . . The Hunt is the story of Byron Caige and his dormant, Katherine "Kat" Dare, the newest of HK-W's wolf couples. It is the fourth book in the Big Bad Wolf series. We first met Byron at the very end of the previous BBW book, "The Spell," where the gorgeous alpha wolf was being kept in chains as the favorite sexual prisoner of a very spoiled vampire princess. Katherine "Kat" Dare, a rare, female werewolf Hunter, is first introduced in this book. She has spent most of her life seeking the wolf she believes killed her father - Byron is that wolf and it turns out she is also his dormant - they are destined mates. For me, Kat is the most fully drawn character yet in the series, and possibly the most empathetic. Her feelings of guilt, unresolved loss, blind thirst for vengeance, and eventual renewed awareness of love and friendship - are layered so delicately throughout the story that her motivations creep up at times and move the story in completely unexpected directions. She is also a daunting physical foe, given her years of training as a hunter. Byron's past is also a big part of the story, as he emotionally struggles with the effects of fifty years of torture and captivity (paranormal time - he barely ages), as well as being kept in a sort of time capsule by his captor, only to find himself suddenly in the present day. But this book is all action, and the personal demons of the characters just add to the intensity because they inspire them to respond in such surprising ways. I was constantly thinking - I never saw that coming! But each twist works so well and just adds to the tension. And there is plenty of the usual sexual tension the BBW books deliver so well. The heat between Byron and Kat is as good as it gets. The charisma between them, friendship based on mutual admiration, adds a lot to the story. Adding to the sense of familiarity in the book, is that most of the characters from the previous three novels are also present and very involved in the overall story. Ultimately, the future of them and their kind is at stake and this just notches up the intensity of the story. This is my favorite of all the BBW books. Killough-Walden just gets better and better with everything she writes. I highly recommend that you read the three previous books in the series to fully understand the history and character dynamics. Elements of the back story are explained, but it is so much more fun reading the books to get acquainted with everyone. Plus, all four covers as designed by the author look smashing together.

When it comes to romance novels, The Hunt is average. You've got your basic heroine - strong, beautiful and sexy - who finds the hero - gorgeously muscled and hunky - and of course he falls desperately in love with said heroine because they "are fated to be with each other" and she, against her better judgment, finds herself irresistibly drawn to him. It's all so very cliché. I wish for just once the heroine would be a slightly over weigh and the hero wouldn't look like a GQ model. Also the love scenes were tepid at best, and at worst felt more like Killough was describing a rape than a love scene. The supernatural aspects of the book are a mish-mash of everything from werewolves to vampires to warlocks. The characters were, to put it mildly, a little jumbled. It's like Killough couldn't decide which direction to go in, so she just threw a little bit of everything in the pot, gave it a good stir, a wish and a prayer, and shipped it off to the editors. They were running a sale on Killough's ebooks, and I see now why - I'm also sorry to say that I went ahead and bought three of them - if the other two are as much of a mess as this one, then it's been a colossal waste of money!

eather Killough-Walden she does not disappoint in the 4th book of the Big Bad Wolf series and is deserving of the New York Times Best Selling Author list! The characters are wonderfully described and she easily keeps you on the edge of your seat with the unseen twists and turns of the story line...making guessing what's going to happen next difficult (and awesome). She also does a fantastic job of prepping the reader for the next book in the series and sets the stage for other characters to spin off into their own stories, ensuring there is more to come! Another aspect of Heather's work that I love and greatly appreciate is the continuing inclusion of the heroes and heroines of the series from her previous books. So many times once the book is over, authors do a cursory (and oftentimes lacking) paragraph on how the previous characters are doing and nothing else...essentially cutting the reader off from characters they are invested in. Heather, however, does not diminish these character roles in this or any of her series, but places them front and center of each story line, growing their roles and involving the new set of heroes/heroines into the family dynamic she has established. I highly recommend this and all of Heathers books and I greatly look forward to the next installment! Keep em coming Heather!

The Hunt grabs you with the first sentence and never lets go! I loved this story. Heather delivered another spectacular addition to an already amazing series. Byron and Kat's story sucked me in from the very beginning. Kat is a werewolf hunter and dormant and has been dreaming of Byron. Byron is a werewolf with a very interesting history. This book is full of action, sexual tension, and emotional struggles with some very surprising twists that I never saw coming. This book is outstanding and takes the Big Bad Wolf series to a whole new level.

Another hit by Heather Killough-Walden. The heroine was pretty predictable. Otherwise I loved it and would definitely recommend it.

I have been with Heather from the beginning and she always delivers....on the story, the characters, the action... Her books pull you in and you become a part of her magical world..and she never disappoints. The Hunt grabs you with the first sentence and never lets go...but you are left wanting more. Heather's writing is brilliant and very much in touch with what readers are looking for in today's market.... I give it 5 stars..plus 1 more...
