I'll make this simple, this is the info I got from the authors' website: http://www.jasonpinter.com/blog/2010/01/note-for-readers-of-hunters.asp (THESE ARE THE AUTHORS OWN WORDS)
"THE HUNTERS is not a full novel. It is a novella, about 40-50 pages long. It takes place during one frantic night between THE FURY and THE DARKNESS."
"It is not a 'sample' from another book, or a collection of chapters from any other published book. THE HUNTERS is a wholly original work that cannot be found anywhere else, in any of my other books."
"THE HUNTERS was written so that readers who have never tried my work could get a free, unique taste, and so longtime readers could get a brand new story that fleshed out characters while offering some great suspense."

Very disappointing, this is not a whole book. Now I know why it was offered for free to download. I will be deleting it from my nook.

It is a a lead-in that takes place between his previous work "The Fury" and his new work "The Darkness." He gives a short bio of each character so you aren't reading blindly and confused. I enjoyed his writing style but be warned some of the scenes are brutal and graphic. One murder was especially compelling to me and hooked my emotions. This will give you a good feel of Pinter's style and the characters. I will definitely be following his work

This was one of my first free downloads after receiving the nook as a gift. I was excited to get the free book, especially when the description sounded good. It is a great story, good build of characters and pulled me right into the adventure. My disappointment came in that it was only a few chapters of the book. This was not posted as a "Free Sample" download, but a "FREE" download and yet the entire book was not available.

54 pages long and the first 10 pages doen't even count. So not worth the download. I would have been more impressed if this was a full length book. It has potential it there were just more to it.

How this guy gets published is beyond me. Weak characters, shoddy writing, ridiculous plots. Don't waste your time, even for free.

I was extemely disappointed in this "book". A couple of chapters that draw you in... then ends. It wasn't listed as a "preview", "short story" or "sample". Even though it was free, I wouldn't have downloaded it had I known it wasn't a whole book.
The story was good (as much as was there); I'd like to know what happens next however, I won't buy any of this author's books because of the way this was presented.
I downloaded this because i have read two of the authors previous books and thought they were quite good however this is not a whole book i wouldn't even say this is a short story it is a few chapters put together...I would recommend that if you want to read one of Mr Pinters books you get The Mark or The Guilty.

This is NOT a lead-in to The Darkness. It is actually set after The Darkness. In The Hunter (a mere 83 pages long) one of the characters refers to what they did to Paulina and her daughter, which occurred in The Darkness, so The Hunter should come after not before. Did someone get these two books mixed up in the series lineup? Very confusing and not at all what I expected. How about a full-length version of The Hunter as #6 in the series? The free version is just a taste, like a free sample, and leaves us hanging. The Darkness should properly be the 5th in the series or Jason Pinter has seriously messed up his series (or maybe someone at the publisher?).
