So much has been written and said about the Ijaw of the Niger Delta of Nigeria, yet not much is known about the ethnic groups, even though it is one of the most ancient nationalities in the West African region. Perhaps, due to the riparian nature of their environment, the [jaws seem mysterious to many of their neighbors. This book attempts to unfold some of the mysteries surrounding them through a comprehensive exploration of their culture. It does so by defining, describing, analyzing, and explaining the social, historical, religious, geographical, and psychological factors that shape their world and worldview. In the process, the beliefs, values, norms, mores, and practices which constitute Haw culture are described, analyzed, and discussed. A holistic approach is adopted to capture the dynamic, spiritual, and evocative nature of Ijaw existence.
