Meet the Author

Jane is qualified to the equivalent of a Masters Degree in People Management and is fascinated by the things which craft people’s personalities, so she has great fun exploring these through characters. She lives in the United Kingdom near the Regency City of Bath and has just bought her 400 year old dream home. History has always tempted her imagination and she loves researching and also exploring ruins and houses to get ideas. She equally loves a love story.Jane has always aspired to writing a historical novel so when she was thirty she put it on her ‘to do before I am forty’ list. She completed her first novel ten years ago, never sent it anywhere then started the next. She’s not stopped writing since, and escaping into a mental world of fiction is a great painkiller to help fight off her Ankylosing Spondylitis.

I was so happy this book was an eBook, because buying the eBook was the quickest way to get the words under my eyeballs. :) And am I ever glad I did! Not only is the plot itself amazing, but Jane Lark does an amazing job of helping the reader to understand her characters, either through offering background information, intimating their inner thoughts, or showing us how they react to things outside their control. The two main characters become emotionally bare with one another, vulnerable to the core. And, just when you think the story must be coming to its conclusion...BAM! There is WAY more story to be told. Sounds amazing, right?! Well, IT IS! But there is another reason this book is oh so special to me. If you've read some of my other reviews, or my first blog post ever, you might know that I hold a special place in my heart for books about characters who are able to overcoming abuse...who are survivors. Well, I felt an extreme kinship with Ellen Harding. I realize her 'keeper' was not someone she was married to, and the abuse I personally have gone through was not so much physical as it was mental and emotional, but I thoroughly and completely understand her. Ellen feels that somehow she got herself into the situation she is in, and that no one and nothing can get her out of it. She must deserve what she's gotten out of life. But when she meets Edward, she starts to wonder if not only there is a possibility of someone saving her, but if maybe she deserves better, despite everything she's done...if only she didn't have such a sordid past. When Edward helps Ellen to flee her captor, they both discover they have a lot to learn about each other... Alright, I would LOVE to tell you oh so much more about this fabulous novel, but I don't want to give the story away before you read it!

A Beautiful Story of Love and Healing! 5 Stars!!! I loved this book. Edward gets more than he bargained for when he wins a game of cards. Ellen is a battered and tormented soul who has fought to keep her secrets buried deep. Ellen will suck you into her tangled web and try to help Edward get her out. You will root for her and Edward’s HEA from the very beginning. At certain points of this book I wanted to scream and other parts I had to wipe tears from my eyes. This story takes you on a roller coaster ride and you are hanging on for dear life until the end. I loved Edward and his persistence. Ellen was angsty at first but came to trust Edward fairly quickly so the angst did not get too out of hand. The balance was perfect. Jane Lark’s writing style flows steady to the very end. She gives you a nice bow-tie epilogue to complete the book. These are my favorite type of books. The descriptiveness in Ms. Lark’s writing will make you feel as though you are a fly on the wall. I loved Edward and Ellen and both had so many issues they had to work out but they learned to so together. This book is a story of heartbreak, survival, forgiving, trusting and most of all LOVE. The sex in the book is steamy and tasteful. We meet many of the character’s that are in the other books in this series. I loved Robert, Edward’s brother. It took me a minute to love him but in the end I know he will be one of my favorite guys. I chose to read the entire series and started at the beginning. I am glad I did so I discovered the characters as they entered the story. You do not have to do this. Each book can be read by itself. I highly recommend this book and the entire series you will not be disappointed. Jane Lark has earned a spot on my favorite author’s list. My Favorite Quotes: She loved this man, she had known him only moments but still she knew she loved him. He’d possessed her body and her heart. Have I been waiting for you for long before the park? Yes, all my life.” – Edward “You are not alone anymore, sweetheart, you have me.” – Edward he bent to kiss her in a soul deep promise of his lifetime commitment. It was not just in his words and touch – it was in every essence of his being.

As a lifelong Austen fangirl, historical novels set around the Regency England are always a pleasure to read. This one is no different - well-written and absorbing story. The plight of Ellen trying to escape her past but worrying what others think, Edward offering a way out, but not sure whether to trust him, secrets finally revealed, a family reunited and a father ashamed by his choices. Looking forward to the next book in this series. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Illicit Love of a Courtesan (Marlow Intrigues #1) by Jane Lark 4 out of 5 Stars Just like a Regency waltz when danced correctly, Ms. Lark writes such a beautiful, seductive, and almost scandalous romance! I have to admit I was immediately intrigued by the name and cover of the book, and once I opened the pages I was swept back into the world of glittering ballrooms, gaming hells, moonlit gardens, and secret rendezvous behind closed doors. Such a brilliantly descriptive world was crafted that I forgot I was reading and truly became a part of the world that Ellen and Edward lived in. Trapped in an abusive relationship with her “protector,” Ellen is the shell of an exquisite beauty with a dying soul. Looking across the card table at a handsome, kind set of eyes brings a sudden desire to thwart her “protector” and protect the man he is trying to swindle. So in a moment of almost forgotten freedom she ensnares her life with Edward’s in a way that she can’t dare to predict. While I found the book to be exceptionally well written my only real issue was the length. There were portions that I felt were going on and on with no resolution or change in the storyline and then other parts were it seemed to flow very smoothly and with a good speed. While I enjoy longer stories and a lot of detail, I just felt this story spent too much time allowing the characters to vacillate in their decision making, trying to make the climax that much greater. What it did is make me want to skip ahead and see what happened next. But overall I truly enjoyed the book and can’t wait to read the next in the Marlow Intrigues! **A complimentary copy was given in exchange for an honest review** Pepper, My Secret Book Spot

Really liked this book. Stayed up all night reading the night before Easter, let's just put it this way after we finished Dinner I passed out for an hour but it was worth it. I love all things romance and i was not disappointed. This story kept me right there, not so much for action but just with the story of how it was love/lust at first sight but they had to overcome so much to be together. She had to endure such a horrible time for a while yet it never really broke her she just thought it had. He saw her for more than her past by seeing her for who she was and not for what she was made to do. This was a truly good historical romance and I'm looking forward to reading the next one.
