Library Journal

This is the Washington Post's competition with the Times book, above. It costs less, but readers get less. While the Times book is a keeper for the ages, this one has a cheesier look to its graphics and no contribution from the newspaper's considerable experts similar to what the Times offers in its volume. Apart from five pages by David Maraniss after an all-too-brief foreword by Ben Bradlee, there is little text here other than photo captions. A disappointment.

Washington Post's Pictoral of Obama Inauguration

The pictures were beautiful, entertaining, personal, as well as, public. I have enjoyed reading it. Also, if I want just something to take up a few minutes of time, it is perfect to pick up and glance through the pictures over and over again.

It is the only pictoral publication in hardback form that I have selected to buy. I think it makes a perfect gift for all ages. I even have a friend who is mentally handicapped, but she would enjoy the pictures because she is infatuated with the entire Obama family. So, literally, it is a perfect gift for anyone.

    Coverage of Historoy

This book was exactly what I had been looking for. It was completely coverage of the Inauguration. Many books I had looked at which seemed to be about this important occasion were at least half about the campaign or about the President's earlier life. I already owned this type of book and was hoping that finally one like this would come out.

The introduction by Ben Bradlee brought me back to the JFK Inauguartion. He was the first President I was ever old enough to vote for and also the only one before Barack Obama that I was very excited about. The tie-in of the two events that he described was there for me too.

The story by David Maraniss was just enough background for this book. The introductions to the different sections also were good.

And need I say--the photography was outstanding!

I am VERY glad to own this book.

Great book with tons of insights and magnificent pictures. This book is a great tribute to a very important and magnificent historical event.

I bought this book primarily because I went to the inauguration and I wanted a book to capture the importance and the significance of the day. I got that in this book and so much more. I am impressed by the detail and the focus on so many aspects of President Obama's life and political career. I have loaned it to more of my Republican friends than I have my friends who are Democrats. The images are magnificent with terrific colors and details. There are so many touching photographs of the First Family as well as many great shots of other political leaders. More importantly, there are some great candid shots of "regular" Americans who were part of the historical inauguration. The photos of the famous and historical train ride from Philadelphia to Washington, D.C. just days prior to the inauguration of the Obamas and Bidens are spectacular. The photographs show the President, not only as a politician, but as a husband, father, friend and true American. This is a must-buy book for anyone who went to the inauguration or for anyone interested in President Obama. Historical buffs must add this publication to their personal libraries. This is a perfect book for all schools and universities as well. Every educational institution should have a copy of this book. The text of the President's Inaugural Address is included. The book is set up in several different parts. The Foreward, the Road to the Presidency, Inauguration Weekend: Day 1, Inauguration Weekend: Day 2, Inauguration Weekend: Day 3 and, of course, Inauguration Day. The Inaugural Address and the Afterword then follow. Many thanks to the Washington Post and Mary Hadar for a magnificent and breathtaking publication. You captured my day at the cold January weather event beautifully.
