Overview

With The Innocent Age, Dan Fogelberg created the most ambitious, successful, and creative recording of his career and one that in retrospect was actually quite underrated. A sprawling, conceptual song cycle, the double album traces the stages of life from the cradle to the grave. Beautifully orchestrated, imaginatively conceived, and obviously well thought out, it works as an artistic statement and also includes some of Fogelberg's most universally appealing and commercially successful music. "Leader of the Band" (about his father) and "Same Old Lang Syne" (about an old girlfriend) have a timeless quality and were big hits. As bold as the album was, Fogelberg acknowledged the importance of his influences and those who inspired him to attempt to reach such lofty musical heights by thanking a long list of music notables in the liner notes. A truly outstanding effort and a major work, The Innocent Age is a recording of a caliber that few artists could achieve; and the fact that it was so commercially successful is a testament to the enormous gifts and appeal of this multi-talented artist.

There are not enough stars to correctly rate this double disc set. If 5 stars represents the very best for an album, then "The Innocent Age is worthy of at least 10 stars. 4 of these songs became gold standards but any of the others on the two discs could equally have been great hits if air play time had been permitted. "A Masterpiece", definitely so, that has not seen its equal before or after. I doubt there will ever be another artist that will come close to Daniel Grayling Fogelberg's artistry as a musician, songwriter, singer. I simply cannot understand how Dan was so under appreciated. Rest in peace Dan, your beautiful music will live on through the ages!

This is a ' must-own' by the most gifted artist of our time!
Each song tells a story. From the uplifting 'Stolen Moments', to the thought-provoking 'Hard to Say', Dan Fogelberg proves his songwriting ability as unparalleled. 'Longer' is a song that will be heard at weddings and celebrations of love for the rest of time. 'Same Old Lang Syne' is one of the most perfectly written and performed songs of the last century. Watch 'Empty Cages' on youtube to see just how talented this man was. Fans are excited to know that one more 'masterpiece' is due to hit the stores soon. 'Love in Time' - the last studio recordings of Dan Fogelberg should be released within a few months....
