The Interact Configuration - A Novel of the 1991 First Gulf War

The stage is set for the first Gulf War in 1991. A sweeping panorama of events and characters are caught up in the crisis and in the horrors of invasion and occupation.

Mustafa al-Riaz is an Iraqi security agent trained in engineering and uses the interaction of circumstances and events to obtain information and manipulate the actions of others.

A two man CIA intelligence team from the embassy in Baghdad is trapped in Kuwait when the Iraqi invasion takes place. Steven Tremaine, one member of the team, is left behind when the embassy is evacuated several months later.

Mustafa al-Riaz has followed the CIA intelligence officers from Baghdad, remains in Kuwait after the invasion and realizes that one of these men has been stranded in Kuwait City. As he leads a unit to destroy the Kuwaiti resistance, he begins a relentless search for the CIA employee and the people who are giving sanctuary.

The international coalition is building toward Operation Desert Storm and the liberation of Kuwait.

Peter Fleming, the second man on the CIA team who was able to leave with the embassy evacuation, is embedded with a company in the 1st Marine Division in Saudi Arabia and is ordered to find Steve Tremaine at any cost. After Kuwait City is liberated, he joins a Kuwaiti army officer and a resistance fighter to follow clues to his partner's fate.

As Operation Desert Storm is launched, Steve Tremaine and a Kuwait resistance fighter are captured. Mustafa al-Riaz is determined to bring these men to Iraq for punishment and will stop at nothing to achieve this goal.

About the Author

Lincoln Phillips was born in Washington, DC and grew up in Texas and Illinois. He is a graduate of Boston University and has an advanced degree in economic security studies from Johns Hopkins University where he specialized in political economy and finance.

He began his career with the Central Intelligence Agency and worked more recently with the Department of the Treasury. He is now Managing Principal with Argonaut Capital Partners in Annapolis, Maryland.
