Surveys the development of the Internet and includes an explanation of what it is, how it can be used, and what it means for the future.
School Library Journal - School Library JournalGr 6-8-A well-written overview on a timely subject. How the Internet got started, how it is used in classrooms and by businesses as well as the controversial issues surrounding it are covered. Individual use of the Internet, including mention of newsgroups, cybersex, and "MUDs"(multi-user dungeons), is also discussed. While readers with no background on the subject may initially find some of the technical language confusing, concepts are explained in the text. The black-and-white photographs, drawings, and cartoons do little to illuminate the text. Extensive notes, an annotated list of organizations to contact, and a great index conclude the book. Useful for reports.--Evelyn Butrico, Cold Spring Harbor Library, Greenlawn, NY
