I have to admit that I was a bit hesitant about Invincible Iron Man. I'm not sure why. And even though I have been tempted by this title on several occasions, I didn't decide to purchase it for quite a while. My local comic shop had free copies (a Marvel promotion) of the first issue though, so I decided to give it a shot. Needless to say, I was hooked. I absolutely love Fraction's run on IIM so far! The writing is absolutely fantastic, the characters are well developed and you actually grow to care about them, and Fraction has a way of taking a somewhat simple plot ocncept and making it absolutely addictive. Don't let the cheesy sounding synopsis fool you. This is a great read and a superb use of the medium. I just have one small complaint. I am not a huge fan of Salvador Larroca's art. It's not bad, but it simply does not appeal to me. I don't like that the faces *occasionally* look too smooth and "plastic." I feel that it detracts a bit from Fraction's carefully crafted emotional scenes. Again this isn't in every scene, but it happens just often enough to bother me. Also, I absolutely do NOT like the cover art for this book. I much prefer the variant art covers that are more similar to the cover of the larger Volume 1 collection that collects issues #1-19. All in all, if you want to sample this series, I recommend buying issue #1 or reading it online (I think it's a free sample comic on Marvel's Digital Comics website.) If you try it and like it (or already know you like it), then I don't recommend that you buy this book. I would recommend the larger collection that has issues #1-19. (Its the one recommnendation listed with this review.) Its hardback, has much nicer cover art and works out to be quite a bit cheaper than buying the three smaller volumes that cover the same issues. Bottom line...don't miss this series, regardless of how you choose to buy it!

This may be the collection of just the first arc, but Fraction has done nothing wrong with this character or book. Its a great series and its continuing adventures are amazing.

Matt Fraction is a very talented dude. His Iron Man is the best I have seen in years. He gets it and is among a select few comic book writers that actually get it. I love this guys work. I highly recommend this book before it sells out. I am highly selective about grahic novels and this was a great investment. It is good when you want to get away from the madness of the world and entertain your brain. Love this book. Cant wait for volume 2. Salvador Larroca is the most underappreciated artist in comics today. Love his work.
