Overview

Day by day The Fever grew stronger, surging across boundaries in its relentless assault on humanity. The news pouring out across the airwaves turned more shocking by the hour. Hospitals had started closing their doors. The dead and dying littered the landscape.

The tiny group stranded on Portsmouth Island listened as the horror unfolded. They had no where to run, and no where to hide. The struggle to survive had taken on a new meaning. The Fever promised an eventual death. Something else had come to The Island though, something wicked and hungry.

As if life wasn’t complicated enough, a stranger arrived in an odd little boat and brought with him, both hope and fear. No one knew the man was sick. No one knew he had a fever.

To save him, William Hill would have to violate the travel ban. To save himself, he would have to face down an indescribable evil.

Meet the Author

Trying to figure out when I started writing is like trying to decide when I started walking. The stories have always been there, rummaging around in my mind. Some went on paper. Most didn’t. I wrote my first novel when I was 22. Thankfully, I left it to the dustbin of history where it shall always remain. Imagine the grin, yes, it was that bad. As for influences on my latest story, The Island, that one has been up there banging away in my head for a long time. Parts of it were told at bedtime. Though honestly, those who heard the parts wouldn't recognize them in the story. By the time we get to the second book in this series, they will find some recognizable moments. They'll also probably be upset that the adventure turned into something of a horror story. Ahh, well, most of them are old enough now to read it for what it is. I grew up in North Carolina, which is why part of the story is set there. I’ve been to exotic parts of the world, many countries, and most states. None of them I know as well as the one I called home for most of my life. It makes it easy to write about it, and the people in it. I hope you enjoy the stories. MS

When thinking about ordering this, I almost didn't. A few of the reviews said it wasn't great. DON'T take anyone's word. Read it. I will say the first book was slightly slower and very descriptive. (@ times too much so) But the first book was necessary, even with the slow parts, to paint the background for this tale. The ever popular "End of Days" has a new twist! A fresh new idea on an old theme. I am a very picky reader and think I would rate this up there with Steven Kings earlier works! Thanks Michael for this great series...keep writing and I will keep reading!!!!!!!!!

This is somewhere between Ted Dekker and Steven King. Cannot wait to read more.

Chilling and epic! This is the best one yet!!! The writer did an excellent job of engaging me and terrifying me at the same time. I could literally feel the fear inside of the boat. I can not wait for further installments!!!

Like the first two installments of "The Island" series, this one gets the "rubber on the road" and keeps you riveted throughout the action. No seriously surprising plot twists here, but solid, spooky entertainment protrayed in a plausible plot line. The characters remain alive and, for the most part, believable. This is about as good as suspense gets.

The author eloquently blends details that framed an image in my mind with plausible events that left me thinking "I can see this happening." After finishing each book in the series I've spent time recalling the story line, the actions (and reactions) of the characters, and have wondered what I would do if I found myself in the same sequence of events. An engaging story and one I highly recommend. Looking forward to the next installment.

This is turning out to be one of the best series I've read. It has everything I like in a book, action, suspense, great characters and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I must now raise this story up to 5 stars, something I rarely do. Now moving on with Book 4.

Yep, liking this series alot! Just picked up installment number 4. I give this 4 stars, not 5, but only because these need further editing. Keep up the good work Mr. Stark!

Good series though I'm not much into monsters. I would have preferred a more realistic view of the world going to "crap." Very good writing; it kept me interested to the conclusion.

To anyone beginning this read, read books 1 and 2 also and keep on going! It is well worth it. I would highly recommend this series, which, hopefully, will be continued in the near future.

Exceptional Series! I grabbed the series because the first three were available free, and paid for the last two before beginning to read. I am not disappointed! This part brings creatures from folklore to life, and brings a new world to life... or maybe it puts the current world to death... or something in between.Great read! Read the series in order as one entire book, and you'll receive a profound story that promises continued entertainment!

Not avail in print since I wanted to share it with some friends. I emailed the author and he is working on a print version...... I would love to see more from him. Great lead character who also has a sense of humor. Don't let the cover mislead you its not about dragons!

I don't normally go in for the Steven King supernatural type books, but i really enjoyed this book. The characnters are well developed and believable and seem to have a real chemistry.
