    Super book

Catherine Spencer has done it again. She's produced another great story with likeable characters and a plausible conflict. Matteo and Stephanie were summer lovers ten years ago, and unbeknownst to Matteo, Stephanie was pregnant when he went back to his home in Italy at the end of the summer. Seeing no future in their relationship, Stephanie made a hasty marriage to another man. Now she is a widow and travels to Italy for a reunion of her disfunctional family. There she meets Matteo again and has to face the fact that she is still in love with him, and that that love may be doomed by the secret she is keeping, her 9 year old son. The book has a great sense of place, with vivid descriptions of the sights and scents of an Italian summer. Wry touches of humour enhance the story, as do the well- developed secondary characters. The interplay between the main characters is emotional and believable. All in all, this book is a winner.
