Overview

*** Illustrated with the original drawings ***
*** Includes the first 5 books in the series ***

"A Princess of Mars" is the first in Burrough's famous Barsoom series. It is also his first novel, predating the Tarzan stories. Full of swordplay and daring feats, the story is considered a classic example of 20th century pulp fiction.

"The Gods of Mars" is the second of his Barsoom (Mars) series .

"Warlord of Mars" is the third book in the series.

"Thuvia, Maid of Mars" is the fourth book. In this novel the focus shifts from John Carter, Warlord of Mars, and Dejah Thoris of Helium, protagonists of the first three books in the series, to their son, Carthoris, prince of Helium, and Thuvia, princess of Ptarth.

"The Chessmen of Mars" continues the focus on the younger members of the family established by John Carter and Dejah Thoris. The heroine this time is their daughter Tara, princess of Helium, whose hand is sought by the gallant Gahan, Jed (prince) of Gathol. Both Helium and Gathol are prominent Barsoomian city states.

Easy to read on the Nook

I'm not going to review John Carter of Mars, Burroughs is a great adventure writer, and I don't need to tell you the story. But I wanted people to know that this edition was not just OCRed from some old copy. I found no errors, or funny page breaks that can make some of these old books almost impossible to read. Nice job. I wish more of these old books had reviews that included information on the quality of the transfer to Nook.

This series of books is fantastic. I have read them multiple times since my first introduction to them in high school, many years ago. Classic action, adventure, romance and down right great story telling. Made me wish I could go to Barsoom and give it a try!!!!

    Recommended for a fun read

A fun read that returns you to an author who wrote at a time when words that are not used much anymore were common. The story is quick paced and very descriptive, yet leaving much to the readers imagination. I finished the first book and immediately started the next one. Anyone who enjoys si/fi will enjoy the read.

Highly recommended for old and new John Carter fans

I read the John Carter of Mars books decades ago, but have long since lost the actual books. This is a great collection of them all and rekindled my interest in the series. Much better than the recent movie. Past John Carter fans will love it and those new to the series will have a new favorite.

    Classic

Saw the movie first. Then had to buy the book. So much more depth and detail here. Fun, heroic, always hopeful, never dull.

interesting for it's place from time

these books were interesting for the fact that they were written so long ago. Although they started out relatively enjoyable, the things start getting a bit repetative in the later books here
