The Journal of Biddy Owens, by Walter Dean Myers, is about giving people chances. This book is about a teenager named Biddy Owens. He is on a baseball team called the Barons. He is also the equipment manger for the team. He doesn¿t get to play that much because he isn¿t so good. The manger is a man named Piper. He lets Biddy Owens play if the team is winning by a lot of points or if they have no chance of winning. Biddy¿s team makes the finals. He gets to play for the first time. Biddy is scared that the ball might go to him and he might drop it. Will he help the team win or will they loose? Read more to find out. I loved that Biddy Owens was not so good at baseball but the team was still nice to him. I also liked this book because I got to see the pictures of the whole team in the back of the book. I liked these pictures because I got to see how Piper looks. The theme of this book is about giving other people chances. I would recommend this book to sport lovers because it tells you a lot about baseball. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. The story took place in Birmingham,Alabama in 1948. Biddy wanted to play so badly. But he never got to play much. His sister didn't believe he was good enough. She was jealous over their parents. She thought they should give her more than him. The team manager would get really mad when they lost, but he was happy when the won.Was this review helpful?
