The Journal of Mary Freman Caesar, 1724-1741

The Journal of Mary Freman Caesar, 1724-1741

by Mary Freman Caesar, Dorothy Potter (Editor)

Editorial Reviews

Caesar (1677-1741) was born into one high-Tory Jacobite family, and married into another. She supported the political careers of her father and husband, and furthered her own interests in literature and politics. In the journals she kept for 16 years, she talked of politics, poetry, genealogy, friendship, honor, and art; she also mentioned such illustrious friends as Jonathan Swift, Alexander Pope, and Matthew Prior. Potter (history, Lynchburg College) thoroughly annotates the journals, and contributes an index of names. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
