Overview

Danny and Nicholas Dobbins don't know how to speak fire-tongue. They have never heard of The Great Happening or The Book of Secrets, and they have never met a gundling or a puck. They have never flown on the back of a gryphon, they have never traveled underground, and they had never heard of the Merlin's Stone. They didn't know it would soon be up to them to save the world. All they know is that their parents have disappeared and they're to blame. With their parents gone, they're forced into a miserable life with the Piggettings, their greedy aunt and uncle, who live atop a secret labyrinth of caverns and tunnels in an unusual house built on the mysterious secrets of old. Their lives are about to change after they enter an old library inside the Piggettings' house, which leads to a bookshelf that conceals a secret place called Underwich. It is there that Danny and his little brother Nicholas find not only friend and foe, but magic bound by a prophecy that has been waiting for them . . . if they can survive the journey.
