The Journey

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Lisa Zhito
Once dismissed as the poor man's Point of Grace, female pop trio Sierra are neither as cloying in their rich harmonies nor as slick in their brand of adult contemporary pop. The Journey finds founder/chief songwriter Wendi Foy Green, Jennifer Hendrix, and newcomer Marianne Adams in fine vocal form, interweaving gentle harmony parts with strong lead performances. The result is a well-produced collection reminiscent of Wilson Phillips or Susan Ashton's early Christian releases. Among the strongest cuts are "Carry Me," which bears a Celtic influence, and the lovely ballad "I See." Lyrically, this album continually emphasizes God's faithfulness amid life's ups and downs; ...

Among the strongest cuts are "Carry Me," which bears a Celtic influence, and the lovely ballad "I See." Lyrically, this album continually emphasizes God's faithfulness amid life's ups and downs; while Sierra's journey of the past ten years surely saw some weightier issues arise, they aren't really reflected here. Still, The Journey is a lively dose of encouragement -- not a bad trip to take.
All Music Guide
The follow-up album to Change, Sierra's August 2001 release The Journey combines the styles of acoustic pop and praise & worship with subtle influences of folk. Carefully crafted and beautifully arranged, the project was produced by Scott Williamson, known for his work with Point of Grace and FFH, and Brian Green, who has worked with Phillips, Craig & Dean and Cindy Morgan. Both producers encouraged the trio composed of members Wendi Foy Green, Jennifer Hendrix, and Marianne Adams to reach for new and innovative approaches both vocally and musically. The result is a project containing strong and engaging harmonies, fresh musical choices, and lyrical depth. Songs include "I Will Exalt the One," "That's What I Know," and "I See."
