Meet the Author

ALAN E. KAZDIN is John M. Musser Professor of Psychology at Yale University and director of Yale's Parenting Center and Child Conduct Clinic. He is 2008 president of the American Psychological Association and the author of many professional-audience books on child psychology and behavior published in dozens of countries. Kazdin lives in Hamden, Connecticut.

    It really works! I promise!

    This is the best self help book I have EVER read. I don't normally write reviews but I am on this book because it is the BOMB. I was struggling with the behaviors of a foster child in my care until I read this book and implemented 'The Program'. Read this book and do just what Dr. Kazdin says and your life and your childs life WILL change. This isn't just another book written by some highbrow specialist. The elements of this program are based on scientific studies and evidenced based theories. He knows what he is talking about. It is not easy to implement because it is a different type of parenting than I have been taught - but it is worth the work and effort on my part to change my way of thinking and reacting to my child. I got results and we are all much happier for the change. Dr. Kazdin is now my hero!

    Will improve the atmosphere at home & your relationships with your kids!

    I'm a child therapist, and highly recommend this book. It comes with a DVD that illustrates the method. Basically, it teaches you to pick your battles, be consistent, and be very specific about the behavior you DO want. I find that a lot of parents expend a lot of energy telling their kids what NOT to do, and not much energy on what TO do.

    Simple method for a complicated condition

    I found this book very informative and easy to understand. The method is different but easy to understand. The book guide you step by step and answer all your questions about the method. As soon as I finish the introduction in the book I knew Dr. Kazdin was talking about me and my child.
