Two monstrous wolves drive fourteen-year-old Jacob Clark down a path to a different world near his small-town home. They are jealous of Jacob and wish to control powers he doesn't know he possesses.

"As a mother, it's refreshing to know there are authors writing fantasy, like The Key of Kilenya, that is not dark and depressing." – Kimberly Job

"Andrea balances excitement with thought, external conflict with inner, and adds just the right mix of mystery and realism." – Karen Hoover

Meet the Author

Andrea, a Brigham Young University graduate, is an avid reader and outdoor enthusiast (hiking, fishing, boating, biking, spending time in the Rocky Mountains, and taking walks). She spent a year and a half serving the Spanish speaking community in Toronto, Canada, and is fluent in 2 ½ languages. She plays several instruments, not including the banjo, and loves putting together musical arrangements. Her favorite sports are basketball and football, though several knee surgeries and incurably awful coordination prevent her from playing them.

Andrea is always in the mood for a good movie with close friends and family (especially her husband and mom), with a large glass of milk and a bowl of overly buttered popcorn nearby. She also enjoys oil painting, making earrings, squeezing every bit of oxygen out of Ziploc bags, and she hopes to someday travel to Italy and Alaska.

Andrea has published three books.

The Key to Kilenya is the first book in the Kilenya Series by An

The Key to Kilenya is the first book in the Kilenya Series by Andrea Pearson. The main character, Jacob Clark, is a fourteen year old whose main aspiration in life is to do well enough at the upcoming basketball tryouts to be selected for the school team. As the story opens, little does he know that his life is about to change drastically. In fact, so much so that basketball tryouts will become the furthest thing from his mind. As Jacob and Matt, (Jake’s sixteen year old brother) finish up a game of one-on-one wolves come out of the woods behind their house. Jake takes off running in order to lead the wolves away from his little sister who is playing in the back yard. By the time he stops running he is lost and can’t find his way back home. The next thing he knows he is faced with dangers previously unimaginable to him. He also meets a group of “beings” who inform him that his help is needed to find the Key to Kilenya which had been stolen from them. The adventures he has along the way make for a compelling, action packed, can’t put it down story.
There were so many things I really liked about the way the author has portrayed Jacob. He strikes me as a typical fourteen year old who although he is self-confident, he still displays a bit of timidity and shyness. This is very noticeable both when he is told that he needs to be the one to rescue the Key to Kilenya, and when he meets Aloren, a female not much older than himself who will be accompanying him and his companions on their trek. In the ways of talking with girls he is a novice and wishes Matt were there as he would be much more confident and self-assured in this type of social situation. The way the author developed, slowly, the relationship between Jacob and Aloren was not only plausible but also logical considering the challenges each faces as seek to achieve their individual objectives .
One additional thing I enjoyed about this book is the creativity and imaginativeness the author used to develop the many different characters both good and bad. What an imagination to develop so many different types of characters, each with their own unique characteristics.
As a Fifth grade teacher I require my students to read a minimum of 30 books per school year. In order to do so I must be available as a resource for them to come to for good book recommendations. It was with this in mind that I picked up this book. Having read it in four days I will certainly recommend it. I found it to be one of those that you just can’t put down. The only concern I have is that they may find it to be the same way for them and then I’ll have the difficult task of getting them to put it away when they need to be working on other things in class. This book was definitely well worth the time spent reading it and I look forward to continuing the series with The Ember Gods.

When I first met Andrea, she had just signed on with my publishe

When I first met Andrea, she had just signed on with my publisher. We were at a writing conference together and I looked at her and went, "now that is what an author is supposed to look like." She was stunning. Beautiful.

    I was immediately intimidated.

Now, it's not that I'm ugly. At least I don't think I am. But I'm short and wide and . . . well, you get the picture. She was tall and slender with curly brown hair and I immediately thought she would make an awesome character in one of my books.

What I didn't know, was that she was as kind and non-judgmental as she was beautiful. I love people like that. Once Andrea and I got to know each other we immediately hit it off. Now, I tell you this, so that you know the truth. Andrea is awesome. She is as beautiful inside as out. And that makes what I'm about to admit that much more awful.

I really wanted to hate her book. I did! When I found out that my publisher had signed another YA fantasy author who had wolves in her book, I wanted to hate it. How dare she! How dare my publisher! That's how I felt then.

    Boy, was I ever wrong.

Though the wolves in her story are integral to the plot, they are not primary characters. Her wolves are black and an apparent enemy to the protagonist. Mine are white and in one case IS the protagonist. Our books are nothing alike, and to top it off, Andrea is an incredible writer, with a depth of detail that is lacking in so many books. She balances excitement with thought, external conflict with inner, and adds just the right mix of mystery and realism. It is a very well written and enjoyable book, and I can hardly wait to share it with my sons.

It's one I know will become a favorite.

To purchase The Key of Kilenya for yourself go HERE. Believe me, you won't regret it.

    The Key of Kilenya-Andrea Pearson.
Evil is afoot in the world of Eklaron. The Lorkon, a nasty species has stolen a powerful key being protected by a species known as Makalos. A fourteen year old earthling boy named Jacob has been summoned to help them recover the key. There is something more sinister involved and Jacob along with his companions must seek the key and return it without getting killed. The quest is not an easy one.
Andrea Pearson has written a compelling fantasy about teamwork and the usual good versus evil theme. The story has many twists and turns and loads of suspense throughout it and will keep the reader fascinated from start to finish. The story is appropriate for ages twelve and up. I give this book five gold keys.

Get ready to leave this world as you know it

The Key of Kilenya is Andrea Pearsons first published novel. This fantasy novel was written for young adults but will intrigue both young adults and adults a like. I recommend it to anyone wanting to go on an adventure without leaving your personal space. Wonderful storyline with strong characters.

    Enjoyable Teen Fantasy

The story starts with a pair of wolves and ends with hideous monsters. It has sentient clouds, creatures in caves, evil forests, and shrinking. This is a fun book for teenage readers who like fantasy. Fourteen-year-old Jacob overcomes many challenges as he travels through a strange and varied world. After a while the chapters started to feel episodic, and sometimes the story got lost. But, over all, there's enough going on to keep things interesting and it left me with many questions about the next book.
