All Music Guide - James Christopher Monger
The 17-track soundtrack for director Lisa Cholodenko's Sundance hit The Kids Are All Right offers up a nice, eclectic playlist stocked with copious amounts of indie rock (Deerhoof, MGMT, Fever Ray) and classic rock (Joni Mitchell, David Bowie, Leon Russell), as well as a little bit of R&B (Betty Wright), jazz (Gabor Szabo), and punk (X). It's a typical post-Quentin Tarantino/Wes Anderson genre-fest to be sure, but it makes for a surprisingly coherent listen, and could kick open some doors for listeners used to soundtracks saturated with Hollywood clichés like "'I Will Survive'" (Gloria Gaynor) and "'Kung Fu Fighting'" ...
