Overview

What fun! A Hanukkah book chock full of history, stories, activities, music, riddles, games, mazes, cartoons, puzzles, recipes, crafts, songs, and so much more. In this activity-packed, fact-filled new title in the enormously successful JPS Kids’ Catalog series, Adler provides just the right balance of education and entertainment. This is a book that children and their families will enjoy again and again, year after year. The opening section of the book explains the history and customs of Hanukkah, along with details on the traditional way to light the candles and celebrate the holiday. This is followed by a selection of wonderful stories written by such classic writers as I.L. Peretz and Sadie Rose Weilerstein, and modern tales by Johanna Hurwitz, Malka Penn, and other contemporary storytellers. Part Three is pure Hanukkah fun. A glossary, index, and annotated list of recommended books about Hanukkah are also included. Teachers and librarians will want this new Kids’ Catalog of Hanukkah for their bookshelves, and parents and grandparents will be pleased to have a new Hanukkah gift for their children and grandchildren. It contains enough enjoyment to last the eight days of Hanukkah and beyond.

Ottawa Jewish Bulletin
"Interactivity is all the rage these days, and interactivity is exactly what readers of all ages will experience when enjoying The Kids' Catalog of Hanukkah."—Ottawa Jewish Bulletin
Jewish Advocate
"For Chanukah fun, David A. Adler is the go-to guy...fun permeates the book, and it's a delight to just flip through it."—Jewish Advocate
Publishers Weekly
The seventh in the series, The Kids' Catalog of Hanukkah by David A. Adler is a comprehensive paperback guide to the holiday. Sections include "All About Hanukkah," "Hanukkah Stories" and "Hanukkah Fun" and feature blessings written in Hebrew followed by translations. Also in the mix: jokes, occasional "Hanukkah Bummer" cartoons and an abundance of quizzes, games, recipes, songs and more. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
School Library Journal
K-Gr 5-This large volume includes the history of the holiday and how it is celebrated; stories and reminiscences from many different contributors, including Chaim Potok; and a section of games, mazes, math riddles, crafts, and recipes. Much of the material is both interesting and valuable, but children are unlikely to be attracted to the jumbled layout. This is an amateurish-looking hodgepodge that will probably find its best use as a teaching tool for adults to use with children.-E. M. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
