Editorial Reviews

VOYA - Erin Kilby
Dramatic illustrations draw the reader into the Tolkienesque world of Ruin Mist, plunged into darkness after a Great War five hundred years past. Blaming magic for their demise, the Kings of Men have decreed that all things magical be destroyed. Yet despite their efforts, the magical Dark Lord is slowly returning to power. Another bloody battle is foreshadowed for Ruin Mist when Adrina, the spoiled and lonely princess of Imtal, is visited by a mysterious woman who predicts Adrina's ghastly future. Meanwhile in the kingdom of Elves, Seth, devoted First of the Red Order of the Queen Mother Elf, is sent on a journey across the Great Sea to prevent war. Stuck somewhere in the middle is Vilmos, a young magical boy-who-would-be-mage, abducted for his own safety by a Yoda-like guide named Xith. All three journey to an unknown fate against treacherous and sometimes supernatural foes. Stanek augments the beginning of this complex tale with illustrations that are sure to attract fans of graphic novels and classic Tolkien alike-the only weakness in the illustrations is their scarcity. Stanek will likely draw a cult following, but his work is not for the novice fantasy reader. A complicated glossary at the end includes twenty-two pages of "People, Places, and Things in Ruin Mist," complete with geographical references, family lineages, and extraordinary sketches. Despite the sophisticated plot, however, this cliffhanger guarantees fans, and those fans will be ready to wield their swords against the Dark Lord in Stanek's next installment.

    Great Read

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is even remotely interested in dragons or fantasy. Vilmos, a twleve year old boy at the beginning of the novel, has the dark gift of magic and is an outcast because of it. When he encounters a bear while gathering wood he uses his magic to save himself but this sets of a series of cataclysmic events that change his life and his world. He has to flee his home to stay alive and that's just the beginning.

As soon as I finished reading the first book, I got the second and started reading the same day. I loved the first one but the second one was when I knew I was hooked. Totally amazing!

What more can I say, that needs to be said, other than I love this series!

I absolutely love this series. Just ask any of my friends as they'll share with you about how much I rave about these books. This is one of my favorites of the series, (my absolute favorites being Kingdoms IV and Dragons IV) and I absolutely enjoy the high action, lush details, and realistic characters the series has to offer. And, one of the best parts is, the fourth books in both series, The Kingdoms and the Elves o the Reaches, and In the Service of Dragons, are-to borrow a quote from one of my favorite tv shows- LEGENDARY. Don't miss out.

My review is of the book with edition number 1-57545-060-7. I read it with my parents. It is my favorite of the first two books because it has the best action. This is the story of a boy with a dark power and what happens when his dark power gets loose. It is also the story of a girl in a dying land and what happens when she goes on the journey shes always wanted to go on. I loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the best no doubt

I was told to check out this book by person after person around me. I finally made the decision to pick it up and it is a decision I will not regret. It is well plotted, and greatly written. From the very beginning you become a fan of Vilmos, Seth, and Adrina. It is exiting and very refreshing, and original.

The Kingdoms and the Elves does it again!

The Kingdoms and the Elves 2 is outstanding! It is an excellent sequel to the first book. It is full if mystery, action, adventure, suspense, and a little bit of humor added on the side. From the very beginning it pulls you in, and you can't help wanting to read more. This is by far the best book I've ever read for too many reasons to count. A must read book for all of the reader out there who are looking for a good bit of entertainment.

Everyone must read the Kingdoms and elves of the reaches books!

I started reading the first book when it first came out. It wasn't popular yet, but my mom had heard that some people had said it was good. Since then I have read each one multiple times and have loved them all. I really enjoyed Kingdoms and the elves #2. There is an awesome twist at the end that is completely unexpected. I reccomend this book and the other three to everyone, children and adults. I can't wait for the fifth and all the others following.

    Read this book it's great

This book was positively spellbounding this and all the rest in the Kingdoms and the Elves series. This is the best book I have ever read and trust me reading is what I do all day. Nobody but nobody could be dissapointed with this book its wonderful, exquisite, and did I mention probably the best book you could ever read. I love it!!! The greatest thing about Robert Stanek's writing is that its never what it seems. If you don't believe me read yourself it is extremely magical!!!!!! The first thing I thought when I finished this book was wow I actually fely I was in it .R Stanek makes you feel as if you are there. If only a world like this existed. Everything in this book is wonderful some of my favorite characters are Vilmos, Emel, Adrina and of course Xith and Edward. This book is wonderful if you don't read it your missing out on a great adventure!! p.s You'll even get a little extra courage out of Vilmos !!!

Endless wonder is exactly what I have after reading a Kingdoms and Elves book. It is adventurous/mystifying in a way that no one can explain. I'm completly captivated by Keeper Martins Tales!!!! Kudos to Stanek!!!! I don't have children but if I did, we would enjoy them together. Keep them coming...

I love this book! Thank you Thank you

In the stirring sequel to the bestseller, we come back to the Kingdoms. It is just when they arrive at Alderan and discover the truth. I hope the 3rd and 4 books are as great as this. If I could, I would have given this book a 6 or better yet INFINATY!!
