This is a true story of muscle cars in the late '60's and early '70's and of the men, and sometimes women, who raced on the streets and the strip vying to be the king. their cars were cool and hot at the same time. They had racing stripes, dual quads, hood scoops and powerful engines that sometimes ran in excess of 650 horsepower. The author was one of those pioneers of Woodward Avenue - the main drag for street racing in Detroit and therefore the nation. Detroit was the setting and Woodward was the street where the Big Three Automakers learned what cars were selling and what cars they should be building by what was happening on Woodward Avenue. This is where the GTO with its famous "Tiger Tail" and the Vette with its powerful 454 V-8 engine showed up and raced for the top honor.
The drivers on Woodward were modern day gunslingers, but instead of being armed with low-slung .44's they were armed with lowered 4-4-2's.
