Sometimes fate needs a little help...

Jonah Wallace knows what it's like to grow up without love. Despite having more money than the Queen of England, his childhood was cold and stale as he grew up in boarding schools. He's dedicated his life to helping homeless and displaced children find the love and support they need by creating the Haven House Foundation, work that resulted in him being Knighted by the Queen.

Now that he's living in America, his work is going along just fine...until his grandfather gives fate a little nudge by insisting he take a wife before he can inherit.

Coffee shop owner, Maggie Bonelli, is pregnant and the baby's dad has gone AWOL. She knows too well the pain of growing up without a daddy. So when Jonah Wallace comes into her shop proposing marriage for a year, she takes him up on his offer, even if it's only for a year. Live in a mansion and give her baby a name and a daddy to call his/her own. But can they keep their perfect arraignment strictly business...or will fate's helping hand bring them love at last?

"Don't you think you're rushing things just a tad?" She lifted her hand and pinched
her index finger and thumb together for emphasis.

"I'll admit my proposal is a bit abrupt," he stammered.

"A bit?"

"We've only known each other--"

"Forty-five minutes tops," she blurted out. "Are you out of your mind?"

Her tone was incredulous. And he really didn't blame Maggie if she thought he was
nuts. He felt nuts. Desperate, too. But he found himself defending his proposal.
"Quite possibly. But you see, that's exactly my point. I have a bit of a timecrunch here, and it seems as though--"

Maggie folded her arms across her chest. "How silly of me. Here I thought you
were sweeping me off my feet."

He shook his head with a chuckle. "I do sound mad, don't I?"

"Recognition is the first step toward recovery."

Something rumbled up from deep inside him. Jonah laughed at himself, this
disastrous day, and the absurd situation he'd been forced into by his grandfather. It felt good to laugh. That in itself was incredibly surprising, considering he hadn't managed to do much laughing at all since he'd learned of the impending plans for Wiltshire.

He peered at Maggie through moisture filled eyes. She wasn't laughing. But she was
incredibly beautiful. Her sapphire eyes sparkled when she teased him. There were small freckles sprinkled across her nose that looked adorable with the sun shining on her creamy skin.

When she looked at him the way she was right now, it didn't seem like such a crazy
idea to marry her. At least not for the reasons he was proposing. He hadn't given it a second thought. And yet, now he realized just how ridiculous he looked from her eyes.

"I'm not making a pass at you. Truly, I'm not."

"You just asked me to marry you."

"I'm asking for your help."

"Again?"

His lips tilted up to one side. "Again."

Maggie took two steps down the stairs until they were both standing at eye level.

"Forget the phone call, the nice air conditioned ride in the limo, the coffee, the pie--"

"Which by the way was truly inspiring," he interjected. "If I didn't already tell you that."

"You did. You don't even know me. You're asking a total stranger to marry you."

He shrugged. "I know that. But I know you make me laugh."

"So that's all it takes for a happy marriage? Bet we could make a killing with that
book."

"I sound delusional," he said. "Even to my own ears, which is pretty scary."

He was delusional. He'd just asked a woman he didn't even know to marry him!
And the fact that he was truly considering it was entirely grandfather's doing.

I read this book in 2 days. Couldn't put it down. Love the way Lisa puts words to paper.

The Knight and Maggie's Baby by Lisa Mondello Book 3 in Fate With a Helping Hand Series Jonah wanted to save his childhood home and the catch was to be married for one year so his Grandfather would not sell it. That is what led him to make an arrangement with his secretary, Catherine, for a pretend marriage for only one year. Only she bolted at the last minute. Jonah had money and everything materialistic but he had an emptiness that he could not identify until he met Maggie Bonelli. Going into her coffee shop to use the phone after being left at the altar was quite humbling. Dressed in his tux, his building across the street but no keys to enter it and no employee's working because he gave them off, he felt like a thirteen year old once again. The beautiful woman gave him coffee and pie and conversation. He really did not want to leave her company, after calling Michael to come and get him, he was glad when she accepted a ride home in his limo with him. And before he knew it he was asking her to marry him. Maggie's mother, Rhonda, could not believe she had turned the handsome millionaire away . With a baby on the way and the Keith washing his hands of her, Rhonda thought it was an opportunity to give her baby more than she was able to give Maggie. She felt content in her life though. She had the love of her mother and before her grandma had passed on some months ago, she had her love and now she had Grandma's coffee shop as the reminder of her childhood. As she reconsidered though, Maggie knew that by allowing Jonah to give her baby his name, it would save her child much grief in the future. Can a man with everything the world had to offer but never had the love he wanted from his parents and a woman who had nothing and yet was rich for having the love of her mother and grandmother find a happiness together? This was a really touching story. *Mild sexual situations and language.

The plot is cute and has characters you grow to like. It is predictable, but that is not a crime in a romance. I just wish the author would get a better editor. There are a few grammar and spelling mistakes that were distracting and motivated me to lower the rating of the book.

Great read. Enjoyed this story. It was predictable but so what? I loved that the heroine was strong and independent and the hero was YUM. Worth your time.##

I loved this modern Cinderella story. Wonderful characters and a sweet story. I was hooked from the first page and read it without stopping.

Loved this book. What innocent young girl doesn't dream of a knight saving her. This book is about a not so innocent woman needing to be saved, and Sir Jonah Wallace stepping up to save her. Yes he is there for his own selfish reasons, but he is honest with her from the start. Maggie struggles to remain independent as per her agreement with Jonah, but as they both fall in love they cant remain apart. I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading more from this author.

Moved slowly in places, but a good read

The plot was typical but made one feel good. Spelling, grammar and proper use of words were lacking at times which is why it is rated three stars.

Nice but somewhat bland contemporary marriage-of-convenience story. Could really have used an editor!

It was okay. Story mainly revolved around trust issues. Not really much story telling, although sweet. Felt it lacked strength! Just a warning to other readers, the story ends at page 486 and excerpts for other books pick up at that point and end at page 629. Weird! That's why I gave it 3 stars, although the book was free! I'm just sayin'!

Enjoyed this book.

I really enjoyed this book, and, unlike some super-short books I've read by Mondello, this one was over 400 pages. The hero was dreamy, without being macho, and I cried at the end with happiness. What more can one ask for?

A very cute story totally ruined by the grammatical and spelling errors... I have read this authors books before and don't remember so many mistakes... Loved the characters and the twist to the story but the errors were ridiculous... For anyone that reads fast and retains what they read this book is nearly impossible to get through... The shoes were beige and then they were white (same outfit, same day), he thought her freckles were cute the first time he saw them and then two days later he thought her freckles were cute the first time (that time) he saw them...
