Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Knitted rugs? While woven and hooked and even crocheted rugs are no secret to the needle worker, who knew that strikingly beautiful rugs could be created with only a pair of knitting needles? In her first book about rug knitting, Druchunas begins with a historical overview of knitted rugs and a photo gallery of rugs produced by contemporary rug knitters. The beginning knitter interested in making rugs need not go elsewhere to learn the skill of knitting, as the author includes an excellent introduction to knitting that covers all the skills and special technique needed to complete the 21 rug projects that follow. Each rug is photographed in a home setting, and patterns are graded for level of difficulty. Even some of the more spectacular rugs, like the Mitered Square Patchwork and Handspun Spiral rugs, are suitable for beginning knitters. Warmly recommended for large public libraries. Complete Guide to Knitted Rugs

This is a great book for knitters who are tired of knitting scarves or who have filled their homes with afghans and are looking for a new canvas for their knitting. The book begins with a fascinating overview of the history of rug knitting, then includes complete directions for all the skills needed- even a beginner can be successful. Finally, the book includes instructions for a wide variety of rug types and shapes, from shaggy pile (who knew those could be knitted?) to coiled through various types of colorwork and texture. The author also points out a multitude of other purposes for 'rug' patterns, from wall hangings to pillows to table mats and more! There are great ideas for all kinds of home decor, and best of all they don't include sizing or shaping, so beginning knitters can have a great result and more experienced knitters can concentrate on design without worrying about the fit, if they're making the item as a gift. This would also make a great book for a guild or group of knitters to use as a knit-along project, since varying the colors and yarns used would make for a great variety of pieces!

    JUST WHAT I NEEDED!

As a beginning knitter, I was thrilled to find this book. It has easy to follow instructions, including a 'learn to knit' section that was perfect for me. After seeing that there are also patterns and designs even at the advanced level, I plan to buy my sister a copy, too. The designs are so unique and fresh!
