Kellen Peterson, the gorgeous star quarterback of the Griffin High football team, seems to have it all. Until the night of the Homecoming game, when Kellen gets tacked and suffers a traumatic brain injury - an injury that changes his life - including his ability to walk, talk and throw a football.

Ivy Ly is a senior and counting down the days until she can escape to college. Though her parents have big plans for her to be a doctor, Ivy is afraid to tell them she'd rather pursue music as a career.

Ivy's best friend, Mira, is obsessed with Kellen. When Ivy is asked to tutor the injured football player upon his return to school, she thinks it's the perfect opportunity for Mira to get to know him better - but sparks fly - in more ways than one...

There isn't anything I don't like about this book!

Told from the alternating perspectives of the two main characters, The Last Dance tells the story of the handsome star quarterback, and the beautiful brainiac chosen to tutor him after his return to school following a serious football accident. The voices of the teenagers ring true -- I felt like I was around my son and his friends. I think this book would be right at home in a high school library, or YA section at the public library. There's much to appeal to older teens -- the pressures of performing academically, making college decisions, peer pressure at school, romance, and even football!

Don't let the fact that Kiki Hamilton is known for her Faerie Ring historical fantasy series keep you from buying this book. She is obviously a talented author, unrestricted by genre. You've got to read this book.

    more from this reviewer

    Lovely YA contemporary

It was light and heartwarming but also a bit sad at times and had the characters dealing with some difficult stuff. I really liked seeing the evolution of the relationship of the two main characters. The story didn't go too.. in depth/ expand on some things I would've liked to know more about but I really enjoyed it overall. It was a quick and cute read.
