Overview

Claire's a bald widow on a mission. With a heavy load in a Louis Vuitton carryon, she heads to rural Pennsylvania to confront the in-laws she's never met. To get through, Claire partakes with abandon from the traveling pharmacy in her Prada purse. Aging porn star, Rob Rhino's on the same plane headed east, on a mission of sorts, too. A reality show has made Rob an unlikely TV sensation, but his past draws him back to the place where it all began.

Claire hates fat, stinky Rob on sight, but can't shake him. They've both got big problems. Claire's is in the overhead compartment. Rob's is in his pants. They forge an unlikely bond in an eccentric town where everyone has something to hide. If Claire's not careful, their friendship might be the death of her.

Refreshingly different! Funny, poignant, heart-felt and with the speed and turns of a roller coaster.

It's difficult to create a character that is simultaneously offensive, funny, quirky, intelligent, and self-centered, but also with a big heart. Amazingly, O'Donnell pulls it off with not only one primary character, but with two.

This book is a complete joy and what I hope is the first of many from an extremely talented writer.       --WJMartin

    Carl Hiaasen on estrogen

In the old days, Claire’s looks inspired lust and admiration. Now she’s scary bald, and in spite of her ten-karat diamond ring and a lavish array of luxury fripperies, her appearance only sparks pity and disdain. Fate sits her next to a fleshy malodorous derelict, the eponymous Rob Rhino. An aged ‘70s porn star, he’s now enjoying—or rather suffering through—a new burst of fame due to a reality show’s focus on his thirteen inch penis. Their meeting changes her life very much for the worst and then amazingly for the better, with Rhino turning out to be the most addled knight in shining armor since Don Quixote.

The plot’s vertiginous hairpin turns almost make the reader long to indulge in Claire’s death-defying combinations of pharmaceuticals and alcohol, but that would only dampen the odd-ball humor and satire, which must not be missed.

Great characters, wild plot, heart and a sense of humor, The Last Day for Rob Rhino has everything other then the winning numbers for the next Powerball Jackpot.
