THE LAST DAY: A True Story Dedicated to Laura Irene P, Ware
As freedom neared, the author counted down the final days of his prison sentence with anticipation, eager to reunite with the one person who had been his anchor through it all—his mother. But an unshakable unease lingered, a feeling of dread he couldn't explain. Then, the call came. A family emergency. His mother was gone.
Thrown into a whirlwind of grief, regret, and reflection, he navigates the crushing reality of losing his biggest supporter just days before his release. The world outside prison no longer feels like the freedom he once longed for. Instead, it is emptier, defined by the absence of the woman who had always been his guiding light.
Through raw emotion, painful truths, and moments of resilience, Keep It Real is a story of transformation, faith, and the unbreakable bond between a mother and son. From the depths of loss to the birth of a new purpose, he channels his pain into a movement—Keep It Real University, a tribute to the values she instilled in him: authenticity, strength, and unwavering love.
This memoir is more than a personal journey; it is a testament to the power of faith, the weight of grief, and the enduring presence of a mother's love that never fades. Through it all, he learns that true freedom is not just about walking out of prison—it is about living with purpose, honoring the past, and carrying forward a legacy that will never die.

About the Author

My name is Larry Russell Ware Jr. I was born June 12th, 1976, to Larry Russell Ware Sr. & the late Laura I. P. Ware in Fort Benning, GA. My parents, siblings & I later moved to Lynchburg, VA, where I attended Linkhorn Elementary & Linkhorn Middle School. I also attended & graduated from E. C. Glass High School. I grew up in the hood, where I was later introduced to the streets of the wrong decisions. I paid the price by being rewarded with prison sentences, but my serving time cost me the most precious time of my life. I lost my mother during this time with only eight days of wake-up call time or eight days until my release date. I didn't get to say goodbye to her. I wasn't allowed to attend her farewell service either. This book is written as a memorial to my mother and to encourage you to make better choices in life & not to go down the wrong road like I did. It will cost you severely should you do this.
