The Last Day of Summer

It was the last day of summer. The barn yard animal friends woke up early, way before sunrise, to plan their special last day together.
"My eyes are all crusty," said Tornado (the lamb.)
"I cannot hold my head up," said Donkey-Lonkey.
"Even my teeth hurt," said Big Foot (the rabbit.)
"I'll go avec le Canard," said Poitou (the French goat.) He lay back down in the grass and closed his eyes.
"I am not a duck," said Legarth Embden. "I am a goose."
"Let's not argue," said Popcorn (the horse.) "It's the last day of summer and we should do something special."
"I would like to follow the wooded trail to see the sparkling water falls," said Donkey-Lonkey.
"We could spend the day at the beach," said Legarth Embden.
"Let's climb to Rocky Ridge and play 'Sautez le Fleuve'," said Poitou.
"I don't like climbing rocks or jumping streams," said Tornado.
"The beach is a great idea," said Popcorn. "But first, we have to cross the Big River."
