It's clear that Ben's successor will be Jim. Mr. Johnstone is attempting to relate the characters of both with similiar traits that they both have in common, i.e., neither wants a leadership role. The story starts out quite slow, and the beginning is hard to understand due to the fact that suddenly with humanity again wiped out by a space born virus that two groups of religious fanatics have set up their empires in such a short time. Also, I would like to see the new character be just a little bit tougher. He seems to be a sissy that always gives up. Perhaps the next book will be better. If it isn't, I'll just reread my ashes series and forget about buying another Johnstone book.

O.K., said I wasn't going to read this first book in the Rebel series and I didn't. Sat in the bookstore and started reading and just jumped pages looking for something interesting.....it was a lost cause. What has happened to Johnstone? As far as I could tell this is the ramblings of a religous fanatic and you couldn't pay me to read another paragraph written by the man, let alone an entire book. I can't believe the same man who wrote the Ashes series put out this dribble. Be good to yourself and give this whole line a pass.

This is a awesome book, I believe that Jim will be able to replace Ben Raines in this series. Looking forward for the next book.

This is the replacemnet for the Ashes seris and it is a good start. Jim is like Ben as the leader that doesn't want to be a leader. He just wants to be with Bev in the mountains. The action drags a little but Mr. Johnstone is still feeling out and developing the characters. I hope that the series continues and becomes as successful as the Ashes series. A good read and hopefully more in the future. Good Luck Mr Johnstone and keep writing.
