Annie: As a child I was unwanted and unloved. Tossed aside until my maternal grandmother came to claim me. Overview

Annie: As a child I was unwanted and unloved. Tossed aside until my maternal grandmother came to claim me. Life got better after that, and it got better still when I met Ethan Michaels, the boy down the street who was determined to make me feel like I mattered. At first he was my friend, but then he became much more. But love isn't real. Not in my world.

When Ethan left to pursue professional hockey I had to make a clean break. I couldn't wait for him to find someone better, couldn't wait for him to break my heart. It's better to leave than be left. But now he's back, and I can't run from him anymore.

Worse...he won't let me.

Ethan: Annie Fraser owned me as a kid. She owns me still. When I got my first contract to play professional hockey I asked her to come with me, but she wouldn't leave Rawdon, not while her grandmother was sick. I understood. Still, I wanted to stay together, do whatever I could to keep her.

But she wanted to run. I loved her enough to let her.

Now I'm back in town and I'm pissed. I think I hate her. I'm sure of it. Until I see her... and those old feelings come rushing back. I won't let her walk away again. I don't care what it takes.

(3.5 stars) I love second chance romances and love them even more when there's a professional hockey player involved :) TLS was a quick read for me, finished it in a matter of hours. For the length of the novel, there couldn't be a lot of flashbacks even though I would've liked some. Even without them it's told in a way that my heart ached for Annie and Ethan. The only thing holding me back from a 4 star rating was the grammatical errors. There was one too many times where words were either missing, wrong or all jumbled in a sentence which caused me to have to read the sentences multiple times to try & figure out. I would definitely read more books from this author and might be hoping Manny gets his own book.

4.5 star I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, second chance at love, suspense, and heartbreak. This is Annie and Ethan’s story. Annie and Ethan were together but Annie let him go to follow his dreams. She didn’t want to lose him to another or hold him back so she pushed him away. He allowed her to push him away. Since he loved her he let her go. Years later he is back in town and he wants to hate her but finds he still loves her. They are both older and have grown up to be different people. Can they try again and this time stay together through everything? Or will she push him away again? I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read. I recommend this book.

This book was a great read; very emotional at times. Annie and Ethan became friends were so came to live with her grandmother. Ethan was completely taken by her right away; he knew she was the girl for him. Annie has had already been through so much at that point and it was hard for her to let people in but she let Ethan in. Eventually their friendship turned into more when they graduated from High School. Shortly after that Ethan was given the opportunity to play professional hockey in the states. This was his dream and he took it. He told Annie they would make it work. Annie post continued to hold her back in some ways and she figured it was better to break things off with Ethan before he realized he could do so much better than her and break it with her crushing her. So that’s exactly what she did. Now three years later she has finished nursing school and has her first job. While at work one night she is given a new patient; Ethan’s brother Manny. Her past is about to collide with her future. She is dating a doctor who works at the same hospital she works at however she knows that she will never feel for him what she feels for Ethan. What will she do when she comes face to face with Ethan? Ethan hates Annie now or at least he thinks he does. She broke it off with him and then changed her number. When he comes to see his brother in the hospital and finds out Annie is Manny’s nurse he imagines saying all kinds of things to her, however when he sees her all that changes. All his feelings for her from before come rushing back. He let her get away once before but he won’t make that mistake again. This book had some twists and turns that made it different from other books like it. I really got into this story. Neither Annie nor Ethan had an easy childhood but they were everything to each other. Ethan is willing do anything to make this second chance with Annie work. All Annie has wanted is a family but she lets her insecurities get in the way. I highly recommend this book. I don’t want to give away to many spoilers but this book pulls you. This is the first book by Sara Hubbard I have read and I look forward to reading other books by her in the future. I was given this book in return for an honest review.

I love intense romances! The Last Shot, by Sara Hubbard, is a sexy, can' t put down romance novel of second chance! It tells the touching story of broken souls in search of love. Her characters Annie and Ethan, have flaws, which makes this story more realistic! Annie, a nurse, always loved Ethan, since they were teenagers, but their relationship became too intense for her, so she decided to let him live his own dream of becoming a famous hockey player. They both came from broken families and had suffered so much. But destiny, will bring them together, when Ethan's brother, Manny, is injured and brought to the hospital where Annie is working. When they meet again, old feelings come back, which becomes a love/hate relationship. Ethan, loves her so much, that he will do anything to win her heart and get her back, but he is an impulsive emotional guy. After a three years separation, lots of emotions overwhelm them! Also, their family relationship is very complicated. Do they still share the same feeling for each others? Will she give him a second chance? Will his brother Manny, intervene to get those two stubborn lovers, back together? Just, go and grab this one when it comes out, you won't be disappointed! Ms. Hubbard wrote a well written, fast-paced, sexy and romantic story of second chance. You don’t need to be hockey fan, to love “The Last Shot”, just a romantic soul!
