Overview

Nick Bantock, Renowned Author/Artist - Griffin and Sabine Trilogy says, "The Last Supper Catering Company is beautifully crafted, a throwback to a style half-forgotten yet sorely missed."
The Last Supper Catering Company is the heartwarming and humorous story of B. Thankful. Turned out with red corkscrew hair, one eye brown, the other green, and gifted with the power to hear the voices of the departed, B. Thankful is cast aside by the town as the devil's child and lives an isolated upbringing in the woods.
Tragedy, followed by the discovery of a long-forgotten paint-by-number picture of the Last Supper, thrusts B. Thankful from the safety of everything she has ever known.
Beyond the boundary of her sheltered life, B. Thankful discovers the world's hard edges as well as its beauty. More importantly, with the help of a cast of tenderhearted souls (earthly and heavenly), she discovers why the world needs her special gift.

Editorial Reviews

Associate Editor, Life As A Human - Tess Wixted
"Michaelene McElroy delivers big emotions and tiny treasures in her crisp and languid telling of a young woman's journey of discovery and deep abiding care for the strangers she meets along the way. It's a sojourn through the 1960's of the United States with its racial tensions, the tears in its cultural fabric...With tones of "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "Forrest Gump", this novel tenderly declares its own delicious literary voice of innocence and courage, with rich, full characters...

Reviewed by Anne Boling for Readers Favorite “The Last Supper Catering Company” by Michaelene McElroy is a book with a different flavor. This is the first novel by the author. I certainly hope it will not be her last. I have nothing to compare the plot to; it is unique, imaginative and wonderfully developed. In "The Last Supper Catering Company" we meet an original character, B. Thankful Childe Lucknow. To say her life was simple would be somewhat misleading. From the day of her birth B. Thankful was different. B. Thankful was in fact the epitome of innocence. Her mother died before she was born. Little G pulled her granddaughter out of the womb and willed her to live. B. Thankful had unruly red hair and eyes of two different colors. But the most unusual thing about her was her ability to hear whispers of the departed. B Thankful had a happy childhood although somewhat isolated. She was rejected by the town’s people but was loved and nurtured in her home in the woods by her grandmother Little G and her father. B. Thankful allows readers to travel with her as she comes to discover why God blessed her with a special gift and his plan for her life. B. is sweet, kind, loving and caring. She doesn’t judge others and has an air of innocence about her. But don’t be fooled; she is highly intelligent. During her journey we will meet many characters often with a quirk or two and the reader will come to love each one. It is difficult to believe this is Michaelene McElroy’s debut novel. Her talent outshines some of the most experienced authors of her time. Her writing style is the use of prose that floats off the page. She illustrates emotion through her words. In this book the reader will experience joy and sadness often, just a few words separating the two. As I savored this tale I found myself smiling, giggling, laughing out loud and in the next paragraph sobbing for the pain B. was facing. My mere words cannot possibly do this book justice. I highly recommend this book. Get your copy today.

One of the best reads I've enjoyed in years. Magical, kind, tearful and inspiring. B. Thankful is a rich and wondrous character that I came to love in just the few pages. A miraculous gift of words meant to be savored, just like each of those last suppers. Bravo!

Wonderful book! Witty, Emotional, beautifully written! The main character, cleverly named B. Thankful, can communicate with those who have passed on... and is given a very special job as a result. This book had me laughing, crying & contemplating life (and death) all the way to the end. I highly recommend it!

I cannot wait for this author to publish her next book. Great story, well told with characters to be cherished. I could not put this down, until I realized I was getting to the end and then I savored every word and read slowing to stretch it out. Wonderful in every way. One of the best Book Club discussions we have ever had - sharing our desired 'Last Supper' wishes.

First her momma dies, then Little G, and then Daddy. It seems more than B. Thankful Childe-Lucknow can handle until she discovers she can communicate with the dead. This is her story of helping people cross to the other side and comforting those left behind. Sweet story about faith, love and grief.

Highly recommend! Must read! If you want to laugh, cry, and fall hard for a genuinely worthy heroine, please pick up a copy of The Last Supper Catering Company! I have been in denial for the better part of three weeks that this book came to an end. I think that is why it took me so long to write my review…I was so disappointed I had finished reading it already. When I wasn’t reading my copy, I was thinking about reading it and wondering what in the world the author would have this charismatic woman, B. Thankful Childe-Lucknow, do next. I was so absorbed with this story and the loveable characters. Within moments of meeting B. Thankful, she had my sympathy, compassion, and attention, and I was going on a journey with her. The author transported me back to an era I have only read about or seen portrayed on the screen, and she did it in a truly unique and original way. Plus, I felt like I was watching the story unfold from the front row of a movie theater. Michaelene McElroy can tell a story. I felt as though the characters were dear friends…they each grabbed hold of my heart so. I took my time to finish the novel, or tried at least, but finally had to accept the fact this part of B. Thankful’s story had closed. I love the way McElroy ended this story and sincerely hope I will be reconnecting with my new friend, B. Thankful, in another story or sequel. I am so grateful this book was recommended to me!
